Job Description

Unity Environmental University is seeking an Assistant/Associate Dean in Biology, Marine Science, or Conservation Field. The role involves course scheduling, academic program development, faculty recruitment, and student advising. Responsibilities include maintaining curriculum integrity, teaching up to 120 credit hours annually, and collaborating with various departments to enhance instructional quality. The position is based in New Gloucester, ME, and is not a remote job.
Location: New Gloucester OpportunityThe Assistant/Associate Dean acts as an extension of the Dean of Baccalaureate Programs, performing duties related to course scheduling, academic program development, course design, adjunct faculty recruitment, student recruitment and advising support, content development, and capacity building. The Assistant/Associate Dean is a member of the Enterprise Education Baccalaureate Faculty, which oversees program viability and relevance, recruits for programs, advises students, mentors capstone projects, and provides other services as needed. Faculty conduct all teaching through the institution’s Learning Management Software (LMS), use appropriate pedagogical techniques for the online environment, and provide course materials in a professional, clear, and rigorous manner.Day to Day Responsibilities AdministrativeWork closely with Enterprise HR staff to hire qualified adjunct instructors and subject matter experts (SMEs).Evaluate and identify qualified applicants for adjunct teaching positions and SME opportunities.Monitor the HRIS database to ensure adjunct instructors’ credentials are updated.Maintain accurate information on faculty web pages.Collaborate with the Vice President of Student Outcomes to develop a student‑centered schedule.Investigate student concerns about instructional experiences and communicate outcomes to the Advising team and/or the Vice President of Student Outcomes.Conduct and summarize research on andragogical practices that support student learning in EE baccalaureate programming.Develop research‑based tools and learning opportunities to support growth and improvement of EE instructors.Work with instructors to enhance instructional practice as needed.Collect and analyze data related to instructional quality; prepare summary reports and advise the Dean regarding actions to address shortcomings.Collect and analyze data related to student achievement of course‑ and program‑level outcomes; prepare summary reports of outcome achievement data.Make recommendations about course assignments based on instructional efficacy data.CurricularSupport the Dean of Baccalaureate Programs in maintaining curriculum integrity, including accreditation requirements.Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for course design as assigned.Oversee supervision of SMEs for course design as assigned.InstructionalTeach up to 120 student credit hours per calendar year as assigned.Demonstrate knowledge of learning models, appropriate online pedagogies, and effective use of technology to support adult and non‑traditional learners.GeneralProactively communicate challenges, successes, and failures with the Dean of Baccalaureate Programs.Perform other duties as assigned.EE SEBU: Communication and Student‑Focused Collaboration and Problem‑SolvingParticipate in Enterprise Education governance (task groups) as assigned.Demonstrate a high degree of commitment to customer service and quality education.Collaborate with Distance Education staff and leaders to develop strategies for effective advising and retention.Work with EE academic and student support faculty and staff to address concerns and develop innovative solutions and products.Become knowledgeable about Unity Environmental University Enterprise Education, its programs, market niche, strategies, and procedures.Unity Environmental University: Understanding, Representing, and Working Within the Enterprise ModelDemonstrate understanding of and ability to work within the Unity Environmental University Enterprise Model.Professionally represent Unity Environmental University Enterprise Education through scholarship, outreach, and professional platforms.QualificationsA terminal degree in biology, marine sciences, conservation, or a related field; or a Master’s degree and significant professional experience in biology or natural resources management.
