Job Description

The City of New York is hiring an Assistant Project Engineer in Lincoln, NE, to support the Office of Green Infrastructure and Cloudburst Design and Construction. Responsibilities include contract plan reviews, geotechnical report evaluations, field inspections, and compliance enforcement for green infrastructure projects. Candidates should have a degree in civil engineering and skills in AutoCAD and GIS. The position is full-time and requires strong analytical and reporting abilities.
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the city.

Under supervision of the Section Manager of the Office of Green Infrastructure and Cloudburst (GI) Design and Construction, Assistant Project Engineer responsibilities include contract plan review, soil subsurface analyzation, review of geotechnical reports and as-builts for green infrastructure citywide. Work will also include conducting desktop and site assessments to determine locations of green infrastructure, pre, during, and post construction site visits, performing various testing of GI assets and ensure contract progress, quality, safety, workmanship and conformance with contract documents, NYC Standards, and applicable codes.
Typical responsibilities of the Assistant Project Engineer will include:
• Perform field inspections for Green Infrastructure and prepare and submit reports to the Project Engineer, Section Manager, Deputy Director, and Director.
• Perform desktop analysis using AutoCAD and/or ArcGIS software to analyze tributary areas and contract area boundaries for Green Infrastructure.
• Perform field visits during design and geotechnical investigations.
• Review geotechnical reports, contract plans and as-builts.
• Coordinate with Project Managers regarding contract progress.
• Perform inspection audits to measure contractor’s performance during construction of green infrastructure projects.
• Perform enforcement of compliance with the DEP sewer use regulations.Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college. A degree in any other engineering area or in civil engineering technology is not acceptable.
Preferred Skills

The Assistant Project Engineer should possess the following:
• Strong MS Office skills, including Excel, PowerPoint.
• Ability to comprehend maps, graphs, and tables.
• Basic AutoCAD, GIS and ArcGIS knowledge.Additional Information
