Job Description
Louisiana State University seeks an Assistant Professor - Research for a non-tenured track position focused on interdisciplinary research related to climate change impacts. Responsibilities include managing design research, building partnerships, and supporting community resilience planning. About the position
The Assistant Professor of Research is a 9-month, non-tenured track position with the LSU Coastal Ecosystem Design Studio to coordinate and conduct interdisciplinary research among architecture, landscape architecture, planning, coastal sciences, engineering, and other disciplines to address the impacts of climate change; Lead community resilience planning and design efforts; Collaborate with other on-campus groups focused on climate change adaptation and resilience, such as LSU Center for Computation & Technology, LA-SEER Center, LSU College of Engineering, College of Coast & Environment, and College of Art & Design; Establish partnerships with off-campus groups such as the Water Institute for the Gulf, Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, consultant firms, and funders; attend and present at national and international conferences.
Responsibilities
• Managing complex design research outputs such as natural and nature-based solution (NNBS) design scenarios based on ecological modeling frameworks, coordinating and leading community-based events; gathering and disseminating local knowledge about landscape functionality; conducting qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis related to community wellbeing; researching and evaluating past events to support NNBS responses, strategies, and best practices; integrating adaptation design methods, best practices, and policy tools to increase implementation potential.

• Manage and build research programs according to the policies, mission, priorities, and strategies of CEDS, LSU, and the State of Louisiana. Build strategic partnerships with local, regional, and national partners in support of this research.

• Consider future environmental risks, regional designs for natural and nature-based solutions (NNBS) related to risk reduction, multiple benefit considerations, ecosystem services and analysis of NNBS design. Work directly with research faculty, graduate assistants, and community stakeholders, while also conducting research to inform design decisions.

• Work on supporting multidisciplinary design courses and assisting communities on ways to address the impacts of climate change. Work directly with research faculty, graduate assistants, and community stakeholders while also conducting research to inform design decisions.

• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
• Master's Degree in Urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, or a related discipline and 5 years experience.

• Demonstrated resilience planning and design experience.

• Demonstrated project management and grant management experience.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.

• Demonstrated resilience planning and design experience at a research institute.

• Strong oral and written communication skills; the ability to work as part of a team, contributing to the intellectual environment of the LSU Coastal Ecosystem Design Studio.
