Job Description

The University of South Dakota is hiring an Assistant Professor of Sustainability – Life Cycle Assessment (tenure-track) for a full-time, in-person position starting August 2025. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, establishing a funded research program, and developing a new life cycle assessment course. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a related field and experience in life cycle assessment. Applications are reviewed starting January 1, 2025.

Assistant Professor of Sustainability – Life Cycle Assessment (tenure-track)

The Department of Sustainability & Environment at the University of South Dakota seeks candidates for a new faculty position in life cycle assessment at the assistant professor level (tenure-track). This is a full-time, in-person, 9-month position to begin in August 2025.

Responsibilities:
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in sustainability and related fields.
• Establish a productive, extramurally funded research program that actively trains M.S. and Ph.D. students in sustainability.
• Develop a new course in life cycle assessment and teach other courses within the undergraduate and graduate sustainability programs.
• Teach data-focused elective courses for the Department of Computer Sciences, as needed.

Required qualifications:
• Ph.D. in engineering, sustainability, environmental science, or a related field at the time of appointment.
• Background in life cycle assessment research and education.
• Ability to teach data-focused courses in computer science, such as data science, data mining, or machine learning.

Preferred qualifications (one or more):
• University teaching experience or postdoctoral research experience.
