Job Title: Assistant Professor in Sustainability (Education)
The School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Birmingham Dubai campus invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Sustainability (Education). This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly interdisciplinary team and contribute to the launch and teaching of our new BSc Sustainability programme.
About the Role:
You will contribute to a range of education-related activities, mainly in support of our BSc Sustainability programme. You will be expected to demonstrate academic citizenship, developing and maintaining mutually respectful and supportive working relationships with all staff and students, and ensuring the way you carry out your role impacts positively on how others carry out theirs.
Main Duties:
• Contribute across the range of teaching and learning activities, including leading curriculum development and/or renewal, developing and managing approaches to teaching and learning that are best practice in the subject area, advising others on aspects of learning, teaching and assessment, and informing your teaching practice by discipline-based research and/or professional practice in the field of sustainability.
• Play an important role in student academic support, frequently update your subject expertise, and undertake personal professional development in teaching, including self-reflection on own teaching using student and peer review feedback to enhance own teaching and learning processes.
• Contribute to the administration/management of teaching within the School, where appropriate leading and managing a team to devise and implement a new and/or revised process, making a contribution to administrative activities within the University, and developing and making substantial contributions to knowledge transfer, enterprise, public engagement, widening participation, schools outreach, and promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Requirements:
• Normally a higher degree relevant to the discipline area (usually PhD) or equivalent qualifications and/or professional experience in Geography, Environmental Science, or Sustainability.
• Teaching experience and scholarship and/or training within subject specialism.
• Proven ability to devise, advise on, and manage learning.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborate with colleagues, and communicate ideas clearly to others.
