RWE Renewables America, LLC is seeking an Assistant General Counsel for Real Estate and Permitting Law to support renewable energy projects in the western U.S. This full-time position requires a J.D. and at least 10 years of experience in real estate law within the renewable energy sector. Responsibilities include legal support for land use and permitting, team management, and collaboration with various legal departments. The role is based in Wisconsin, Chicago, or Austin.

The Assistant General Counsel - Real Estate and Permitting Law will provide legal support for the North American renewable energy business team (BESS, wind & solar) in connection with the development, construction, repowering, and operation of renewable energy projects in the western U.S.
Role Responsibilities:
• Provide legal support for the renewable energy projects, focusing on land use, permitting, and real estate matters, including drafting and negotiating lease agreements, co-tenancy agreements, shared facilities agreements, crossing agreements, reviewing title documents, and working with agencies on permitting and land use issues.
• Manage a team of lawyers and paralegals supporting the West region while handling an independent project portfolio.
• Understand how real estate and permitting risks fit into the overall project lifecycle, including interconnection, energy marketing, environmental, regulatory, and procurement topics.
• Collaborate closely with the Legal Departments in Austin, Chicago, and San Francisco, and with business partners, applying practical legal solutions to support business goals.Job Requirements and Experiences:
• J.D. from a U.S. university and admission to a U.S. state bar.
• Minimum 10 years' experience as a real estate lawyer in the renewable energy sector, with expertise in BESS, solar, wind permitting, and real estate matters, including energy transmission and interconnection agreements.
• Industry experience in energy-related businesses, especially in renewable energy project development, construction, and operation.
• Strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Pay range: $183,000 - $275,000 annually, depending on experience and location.
