Archaeologist - Hawaii job at SWCA Environmental Consultants. Honolulu, HI. About the opportunity
SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Project Archaeologist for our Hawai'i Office to work on projects throughout the Hawaiian Islands. The Cultural Resources Project Archaeologist will be a core member of our rapidly growing Hawai'i Cultural Resources Program, assisting the project manager in a range of project related tasks including the supervising of archaeological staff both in and out of the field, research and analysis, and the preparation of reports. This is a regular, full-time, salaried position reporting to the Hawai'i Cultural Resources Project Manager that can be accomplished from anywhere within the Hawaiian Islands. This position is available at the below levels and title will be based on years of relevant experience or expertise:
• Assistant Project Archaeologist - typically at least 3 years of related experience or expertise
• Associate Project Archaeologist - typically at least 5 years of related experience or expertise

What you will accomplish
• Assist with various aspects of project implementation including staff management, fieldwork, research, and report writing
• Supervise personnel in the field, office, and laboratory
• Contribute to large technical reports, research designs, and other technical documents
• Assist with training and mentoring of staff
• Help maintain good working relationships with state and federal agency contacts and clients
• Maintain SWCA's high standard of scientific ethics and quality deliverables
• Identify and resolve problems in creative ways
• Collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary environmental team
• Assist in the continuing development of SWCA's Hawai'i Cultural Resources Program and expands SWCA's professional reputation in cultural resources consulting and research throughout Hawai'i and beyond
Experience and qualifications for success
• A Bachelor's or higher degree in anthropology, archaeology, history, or a closely related field
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in cultural resources management (CRM) on a variety of project types, sizes, and agencies, with increasing levels of responsibility
• Experience with Hawaiian archaeology and a thorough knowledge of Hawaiian culture
• Meet the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards in archaeology
• Demonstrated experience in federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to the management of cultural resources (HRS 6E, NHPA Section 106)
• Has led field crews on a variety of project types, sizes, and agencies
• Familiarity with the completion of field documents, site forms, and reports
• Demonstrated technical writing skills with a record of assisting in the completion of technical reports in a timely fashion
• Ability to adapt quickly to changes in project needs, agency requests, and more
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a variety of colleagues, clients, and agency representatives
• Must be or plan to be a Hawai'i resident
Additional Information:
• Valid Driver's License in good standing.
• Ability to travel and conduct fieldwork for long hours (sometimes in inclement weather and rugged terrain) and able to carry equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.

An employee in this Honolulu, HI based position can expect an annual salary of $56,784 - $72,072/year for the Assistant Project Archaeologist level. For the Associate Project Archaeologist role, an annual range of $63,336 - $80,808/year can be expected. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
