Job Description
The Department of Climate Change is hiring multiple APS4 Program Officers to support the Climate Active Certification & Program Operations section. These roles involve assessing carbon neutral claims, providing administrative support, and ensuring compliance with program standards. The positions require collaboration across various sections to enhance climate action initiatives in Australia. The salary ranges from $74,882 to $81,521 per annum plus superannuation, and the roles are based in various locations across Australia.

The Climate Active Certification & Program Operations section has multiple vacancies at the APS4 level. The positions provide a highly rewarding opportunity to contribute to awarding carbon neutral certification in Australia, furthering positive action on climate change, and encouraging Australian businesses to undertake voluntary climate action.Who we areOur division sits within the broader Climate group, and it is responsible for driving national adaptation based on assessment of climate change risks and providing advice on implementing the governments climate action agenda, as well as future directions. The division is responsible for the first National Climate Risk Assessment, the National Adaptation Plan, the Annual Climate Change Statement to Parliament, implementing the Climate Change Act and Climate Change Authority Act , the Climate Active program, coordination, and advice on climate science and climate services, uplifting government engagement with climate risk, as well as general climate change policy, strategy, and communications all within the realm of its three branches. The division leads climate adaptation policy, coordinates climate science and information services across Australia, oversees the implementation of the Powering Australia agenda and provides advice and analysis on strategic climate policy.Climate Active is an Australian Government program that drives voluntary climate action by Australian businesses. The brand represents Australias collective effort to measure, reduce, and offset carbon emissions to lessen our negative impact on the environment.The JobAssessment officer
Assessment of program members carbon neutral claims, ensuring they meet the requirements of the Climate Active Carbon Neutral Standard and program rules, following set procedures and guidelines, including to undertake analysis of a range of information to support your assessment.
Draft internal and external correspondence using sound judgement, agreed formats and structured guidelines.
Ensure data is entered consistently into the section’s CRM database.
Work collaboratively across the Climate Active Certification & Program Operations, and the Policy, Strategic Communications and Reform sections.
Program support Officer
Provide help desk support to the programs stakeholders, utilising the sections standard words, frequently asked questions and templates to prepare helpful responses.
Carry out several administration activities such as preparing and issuing invoices, Licence Agreements and Notice of Certification letters and certificates following set procedures and templates.
Assist with the programs compliance activities, including to monitor and issue notices of non-compliance for breach of the programs terms and conditions for certification.
Assist in the preparation of draft correspondence for internal audiences and external stakeholders.
Contribute to program improvement processes by keeping standard operating procedures up to date and suggest improvements to assist with efficiency and increase key performance indicators.
Work collaboratively across the Climate Active Certification & Program Operations, and the Policy, Strategic Communications and Reform sections.
Knowledge and experience
Assessment officer
General climate change policy knowledge or grants program experience would be helpful but is not required.
Program support officer
Experience in department corporate areas (finance or executive support roles) or grants programs would be helpful but is not required.
Skills and capabilities
Be able to prioritise tasks under direction to meet set deadlines.
Be flexible and adaptable with your workload and be willing to help others.
Proactively identify issues and suggest solutions to problems.
Good written and verbal communication skills including the ability to research, analyse information, and write concisely.

EligibilityCitizenship – To be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen.
Security Clearance – This position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
Pre-employment Check – Your suitability for employment will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process. This process includes a requirement to undergo and satisfy a National Police Check, referee checks, character clearance and where required a pre-employment medical assessment, specified mandatory qualification(s) validation and a probation period of 6 months.
