The Apprentice Power Plant Technician - Gas Turbine position at Turlock Irrigation District involves assisting a Power Plant Technician in the maintenance and operation of gas turbine power plants. Duties include inspecting equipment, performing technical tasks, and responding to emergencies. Candidates should have a high school education and possess basic technical skills. This role requires on-call availability and the ability to quickly respond to emergencies.
Description JOB SUMMARY Under immediate supervision, to work with and assist a Power Plant Technician - Gas Turbine receiving increasing instruction and experience in the maintenance and operation of gas turbine power plants. Examples of Duties DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Work with and assist a Power Plant Technician - Gas Turbine. During training, perform progressively more difficult and technical duties.

Assist in the inspection, maintenance and operation of gas turbine power plant and associated equipment such as hydraulic activators, lubrication oil systems, generator cooling water systems, generators and turbines, station batteries, switchboard, water treatment systems, fuel handling systems, etc. Meggering and high pot testing. Check and record exciter generator brush condition.

Assist in the maintenance and operation of other power plants. Perform welding and fabrication work. Operate radio and telephone equipment.

Assist in similar activities at other power operating stations mainly hydro power plants. Assist in the maintenance of a variety of records including those for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Air Quality Control Board or other governing agencies. Respond to emergency situations and be on call as assigned.

Perform other related duties as required or assigned by supervisor. Typical Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the skills and abilities would be: Education Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.

Experience None required. Skills and Abilities Interpersonal and Communication. Ability to: follow oral and written instructions; and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Technical and Analytical. Ability to: analyze problems logically; read and interpret plans and specifications; and keep records and prepare reports. Knowledge of: basic electricity and electronics; basic mechanical and hydraulic principles; and mathematics including a basic understanding of algebra, geometry and trigonometry.

Supplemental Information Necessary Special Requirements Possession of an appropriate California driver's license. Must furnish own hand tools. Must be able to respond quickly to emergency calls.

This classification will be required to work a scheduled on call period. Employees who are assigned an on-call period have a response time obligation as listed below: An on-call Apprentice Power Plant Technician - Gas Turbine must be able to arrive at the Almond Power Plant within thirty (30) minutes of the time they are called out. The on-call employee must obey all traffic laws when responding to a call out.
