Liberty Mutual is hiring an Analyst for Catastrophe Management, focusing on natural hazards and climate risk analytics. The role involves analyzing catastrophe models, supporting climate-related research, and assessing transition risks. Candidates should have a graduate degree in a relevant field, with 0-3 years of experience in catastrophe modeling. The position allows for remote work, with a hybrid option for those within 50 miles of specific locations.

The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

If you are within 50 miles of the following locations: Boston MA, Portsmouth NH, Seattle WA, Indianapolis IN, Columbus OH, Plano TX this will be hybrid (2 days in office).

Looking to join a team of analysts that have expertise in natural hazards, engineering, catastrophe risk and insurance risk modeling, this team is charged with creating the Liberty view of catastrophe risk. This position will also support expanding demand for climate analytics and thought leadership from senior management and our business partners, with regard to both physical and transition risk. Capable of designing and managing research projects.

Job Responsibilities:
• In-depth analysis and interpretation of third-party catastrophe models including evaluation of new model releases
• Support climate-related research, analytics, and regulatory reporting including translation of climate risk impacts on the business.
• Assessment of transition risk to organization via integrated assessment modeling, supply chain risk, power grid vulnerability, liability risk, etc.
• Collaborates on model adjustments for established perils and regions to align with Liberty's portfolio of risks. This includes post-event assessment of models and adjustments for emerging hazards.
• Creation of custom tools for non-modeled and poorly modeled risks as well as development of tools and novel techniques for evaluation of models and model results. This includes use of GIS as well as other analytical products.
• Identification of potential large loss scenarios to which Liberty may be exposed and involvement with assessment of emerging risks.
Qualifications
• A graduate degree (master's or PhD) is required in applied statistics, hydrology, wildfire research, geosciences, meteorology, engineerings (civil or environmental) or other related field
• Demonstrated experience in advancing complex projects and working with interdisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and risk analysts.
• 0-3 years catastrophe modeling experience.
• Demonstrated proficiency in verbal and written communication to a wide variety of audiences.
• Superb data mining skills, with experience in working with large data sets. SQL experience is a plus.
• Coding experience in Python or R preferred.
• Experience in geospatial analytics and working with GIS applications.
