Job Description

The State of Montana is seeking an Air Quality Environmental Scientist to conduct scientific analyses and assessments for the air quality program. Key responsibilities include reviewing industrial facility specifications, assessing permit applications, conducting field inspections, and liaising with the public on air quality issues. The position requires a science-based degree and two years of relevant experience. It offers professional development opportunities and may allow for occasional telework.
The Air Quality Environmental Scientist performs scientific and technical analyses, calculations, assessments and determinations essential to the implementation of the air quality program in the State of Montana. Responsibilities include: Reviewing specifications and processes at existing and proposed industrial facilities; Assessing and responding to permit applications and registration materials; Determining whether facilities are constructed and operated in compliance with air quality rules and permit requirements; Conducting field inspections; Reviewing and implementing state and federal statutes, rules, and policies; and Acting as a liaison for the Department to the public and industry on air quality matters.At the Department of Environmental Quality, our ultimate goal is to champion a healthy environment for a thriving Montana.
