Job Description
The Air Permitting Environmental Justice Coordinator at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is responsible for implementing environmental justice processes in air quality permitting. About the position
The Air Permitting Environmental Justice Coordinator at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) is responsible for coordinating the implementation of environmental justice processes within the air quality permitting program. This role aims to reduce or prevent disproportionate negative impacts from pollution, ensuring effective service delivery and compliance with agency policies. The coordinator will analyze existing practices, recommend improvements, maintain documentation, and provide training to staff on environmental justice concepts.
Responsibilities
• Coordinate the implementation of environmental justice processes within the air quality permitting program.

• Analyze existing policies and recommend revisions to improve service delivery.
,
• Evaluate agency goals for environmental justice and suggest new performance measures.
,
• Maintain and update process documents and track environmental justice projects.
,
• Organize and provide training for new and existing staff on environmental justice concepts.
,
• Attend conferences and trainings related to environmental justice to enhance knowledge.
,
• Assist in coordinating the environmental justice process for permitting projects in designated areas.
,
• Lead discussions with facilities in environmental justice areas to inform them of relevant concepts and outreach opportunities.
Requirements
• Three years of professional-level experience in environmental regulation, management, or related fields.

• A bachelor's degree in engineering or environmental sciences can substitute for one year of experience.

• Understanding of federal and state regulatory frameworks applicable to industrial facilities.
,
• Strong project management skills to complete special projects effectively.
,
• Ability to represent the MPCA on social, economic, and environmental issues.

• Demonstrated verbal communication and technical writing skills, including Business English proficiency.

• Proficient in using computer programs and ability to learn agency's database.
Nice-to-haves
• Knowledge or experience in environmental justice concepts and policies.

• Experience in air quality permitting or working with permitted industries.

• Ability to identify barriers faced by regulated parties and propose solutions to reduce pollution.

• A broad understanding of state, national, and global environmental issues.
