Environmental Design International, Inc. is hiring an Accounting Manager in Chicago, IL, to oversee financial reporting and manage the accounting system due to retirement. The role involves supervising A/P, A/R, and payroll teams, ensuring financial integrity, and implementing process improvements. Candidates need a degree in Accounting or Finance, strong Excel skills, and prior supervisory experience. Position Summary

Mid-sized, privately-owned, engineering consulting firm is looking for an Accounting Manager due to retirement. You will enjoy working with our sophisticated and varied client base, plus talented and capable people throughout the Company. The Accounting Manager will oversee financial reporting and "own" the accounting system and general ledger.

This role will ensure the integrity of our financial information by evaluating and continually refining our internal controls, financial policies, and procedures. You will have a strong and capable team in A/P, A/R, and payroll. A degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is required. The ability to effectively communicate within a matrixed organization is critical. Strong Excel skills are necessary and familiarity with Deltek Ajera and/or Paylocity is a plus. It's anticipated that this role will grow into the Controller's role.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Project Accountants
• Accounts Payable
• Payroll

Duties And Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Provide guidance for GAAP standards and initiatives and technical accounting information as needed
• Provide mentorship and guidance to accounting staff, fostering professional development
• Provide analytical input, recommending and implementing process improvements
• Create and maintain financial schedules, journal entries and documentation
• Responsible for the accurate and complete month end and yearend closings
• Work with outside auditors on multiple audits
• Provide backup to critical accounting functions, including payroll

Other duties and special projects, as assigned

Requirements
• Ability to effectively communicate with other internal departments and external parties
• Excellent organizational, analytical, numerical, verbal, and written communication
• Curiosity and enthusiasm for continuous learning
• Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks, both personally and for supervised staff
• Ensure departmental deadlines are met and objectives are achieved
• Must demonstrate integrity, honesty, professionalism, and appropriate judgment regarding dissemination of sensitive and confidential information
• Ability to create, file, and maintain electronic documents.in an organized manner
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with payroll and ERP software
• Must demonstrate commitment to company values, goals, and objectives

Education And Experience

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
• Prior experience working in the professional services industry
• Prior supervisory experience required
• CPA, MBA a plus
