About the position

The University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) is seeking an Academic Coordinator II for the Environmental Studies Program. This position is integral to the Yardi Scholars for Environmental Justice program, which is a four-year, cohort-based initiative designed to support incoming first-generation and low-income students. The program provides full scholarships and offers a range of curricular and co-curricular experiences aimed at fostering leadership and effective environmental changemaking skills. The first cohort of approximately 18-20 students will be recruited in Spring 2025, with the program reaching full capacity by the 2028/2029 academic year. The Academic Coordinator will oversee the program's development and implementation, including managing the recruitment and application process for Yardi Scholars, providing mentorship and academic guidance, and coordinating peer mentoring. The role involves developing and leading three courses each year related to the program, organizing an annual retreat, and managing program communications. The Executive Director will also support program administration and evaluation, ensuring that the program meets its educational goals and effectively serves its students. The successful candidate will have a strong background in program administration, experience mentoring undergraduates from diverse backgrounds, and expertise in environmental justice. Responsibilities include facilitating student navigation of UCSB resources, organizing social activities, and collaborating with the UCSB Office of Admissions for outreach efforts. The position is a full-time appointment for one year, with the possibility of reappointment based on performance.

Responsibilities
• Manage the program recruitment and application process for Yardi Scholars.

• Provide direct mentorship and academic guidance for cohorts of Yardi Scholars throughout their time at UCSB.

• Develop and lead three courses (seminars and project practicums) per year related to the Yardi Scholars for Environmental Justice program.

Requirements
• Master's degree or equivalent in any discipline.

• At least one year of postsecondary teaching experience.

• Experience collaboratively creating and administering educational programs.

Nice-to-haves
• At least 2+ years of experience in education and/or nonprofit administration focusing on environmental justice and/or social change.

• Experience supporting, mentoring, and working with a diverse student population, especially first-generation and low-income students.
