Job Description

Garbage to Garden is hiring for a Zero-Waste Event Crew in Portland, ME, for the 2025 event season (May to September). Responsibilities include managing waste stations, sorting waste, and cleaning up after events. Candidates must be 18+, have a valid Maine license, and be able to lift 50-75 lbs. This part-time, seasonal position offers $22 per hour with opportunities for additional work leading to full-time roles.
Garbage to Garden, Inc. is a curbside composting company based in Portland, ME. We provide composting and recycling solutions for thousands of residents and hundreds of businesses throughout Southern Maine and Massachusetts.

Garbage to Garden provides zero-waste event services, introducing composting and recycling to a variety of events each year. Be a part of our commitment to closing the food loop and diverting waste from landfills!

We are seeking enthusiastic, hardworking individuals to join our Event Crew for the 2025 event season (roughly May through September). In addition to a great paycheck, you’ll get free access to concerts and events, free curbside composting service, discounted compost and planting mix.

Event crew member responsibilities include:
• Setting up and monitoring event waste management stations
• Keeping grounds clear of all litter throughout events
• Sorting waste to maximize diversion and maintain a high level of cleanliness within designated area at all times
• Driving pick-up truck with or without trailer, training provided
• Removing waste from site according to event contract
• Cleaning up site following the event & breaking down and packing up all Garbage to Garden equipment and supplies
• Accurately recording, tracking, and submitting waste audit information
• Being educated and informed (we will train!) about recycling and composting in the local area, as well as our event waste management program, to pass this info along to event attendees, vendors, and venue staff
• Being a professional, positive, and responsible representative of Garbage to Garden at all events
• If the candidate is interested, there is opportunity for additional hours doing work that support our other services at our shop in Portland M-F.

All applicants must:
• Be 18+
• Have a valid Maine License and reliable transportation to and from Garbage to Garden HQ
• Be available on nights & weekends
• Be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Be able to consistently lift 50-75 lbs and work on foot for 8 to 12 hours
• Be committed to learning the ins and outs of composting and recycling
• Be ready to work hard & have fun in a team environment, and not be afraid to get a little dirty
• Have a positive attitude, be ready to engage with the community, and be excited to learn

This is a part-time, seasonal position. For the right candidates, there are opportunities for additional work that could lead to full-time and/or year-round employment.

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 40 per week

• 12 hour shift
• 8 hour shift
• Day shift
• Evening shift
• Night shift
• Overtime
• Weekends as needed
