Job Description
DESCRIPTION: Do you enjoy spending time outdoors, teaching about wildlife, and inspiring others to connect with nature? The Commission’s Fish and Wildlife Education Division is looking for a Wildlife Seasonal Educator to join our team for a seven-month period. While this position will support a variety of education programs, the primary focus will be on wildlife education initiatives.

JOB DUTIES: Qualified candidates will play a key role in supporting the Wildlife Education Specialist by advancing wildlife education initiatives. Responsibilities include delivering wildlife-focused presentations and programs, developing social media content, facilitating Project WILD educator workshops, and assisting with the planning, development, and promotion of Nebraska Reptile Month. Additional duties involve leading educational programs at schools, community centers, and special events, with a focus on wildlife education, outdoor recreation, and Nebraska’s natural resources. This position also involves caring for and using live animals-such as snakes, turtles, and frogs-for educational purposes. Other responsibilities include coordinating volunteers for large events, organizing activities, and expanding existing education programs. Additional duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: At least six months experience working in a recreational area, scenic attraction, hospitality, historical, retail or customer service setting, agricultural setting, or related coursework/training.
Other: Valid driver’s license is required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
We are seeking candidates with
Knowledge of: Nebraska plant and wildlife species, natural resources, and outdoor recreation activities like kayaking; basic science and ecological principles; animal care; safe work procedures; group management; best educational practices and communication principles.
Skills in: educating people of all levels and interests; communicating clearly with people from a variety of backgrounds through varied platforms both in person and online; entry level outdoor recreation practices; administration of first aid and CPR preferred; bilingual preferred.
Ability to: communicate and effectively educate the public; understand and follow instructions; ability to work independently and make decisions independently; ability to direct volunteers; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and administrative personnel; recognize safety hazards and take steps to correct the situation; apply agency policies pertinent to assigned work and direction of assigned crews; bend, stoop, climb, lift and carry up to 40 lbs., reach frequently; work outdoors; remain standing and/or walking for long periods of time.
