Job Description

The Government of the Northwest Territories is seeking a Wildlife Spatial Data Analyst in Yellowknife, NT. The role involves analyzing data sharing applications, managing data sharing agreements, and utilizing GIS software to validate and analyze wildlife data. Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and two years of data management experience. The position offers a salary range of CA$106K–CA$126K annually and is full-time.
Department Information

The mandate of the Department of Environment and Climate Change is to manage land, water, air, wildlife, and forests. This includes promoting, planning, and supporting the wise and sustainable use of natural resources, and protecting, restoring, and stewarding the environment for the social and economic benefit of all Northwest Territories residents.

Job Information

The Analyst reviews, evaluates and analyzes data sharing applications, determines spatially whether or not the data are available and appropriate, and facilitates the sharing of data. The position is also responsible for administering the data sharing agreements with the public or other clients, and compiling data and information to fulfill the agreements. You will also be responsible for using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and programming software to validate wildlife data, develop analytic procedures, analyze spatial data, and developing mapped GIS products to assist in the management and monitoring of wildlife and species at risk for the Wildlife Management Division and the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT).

Typically attained by:

Completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, zoology, or ecology or other relevant field, and a minimum of two (2) years of direct experience in data management, including working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Equivalencies include:
• A Master's degree in biology, zoology, or ecology or other relevant field.
• A Diploma in biology, zoology, or ecology or other relevant field, and a minimum of four (4) years of direct experience in data management, including working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
