Description:
Wildlife Ecology Institute has 1–2 limited-duration part-time employment opportunities for Laboratory Technicians for Phase II of our Great Lakes Basin Muskrat Research Project (https://www.wildlifeecology.org/muskrat_gl2.html), which includes an evaluation of wetland conditions and their relationship with demographics, reproduction, and health of muskrat populations. Our project partners include Kansas State University, Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Sault Saint Marie Tribe of the Chippewa, Keweenaw Indian Bay Community, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and others.
Lab work will be conducted at facilities on the campus of Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS. Duties include processing muskrat and mink carcasses and recording sex and reproductive history, parasite counts, tissue-sample collection, and other general health measures. Successful applicants will also work with other personnel on campus to coordinate subsequent assessments of body condition. All work will be conducted indoors in a laboratory setting.
Technicians must have a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and proof of insurance. Applicants must be legally able to work in the United States.
Pay rate is $16.50–21.00/hr, depending on experience. Duration of employment will be approximately 3–6 months, although extension may be possible. Work days and hours are flexible, and can generally be set to accommodate nontraditional schedules for work (e.g., nights or weekends). Start date is somewhat flexible, but ideally during May or early June 2025.
