Tesoro Group is hiring Wildlife Field Technicians for a wind project in Paulding, OH, starting May 21, 2024, and ending November 16, 2024. Responsibilities include conducting fatality searches for birds and bats beneath wind turbines. Candidates must work independently and in teams, follow strict safety protocols, and be physically fit for outdoor work. The position offers $20/hour with an average of 35 hours per week.
Job Title: Wildlife Field Technician

Job Description:

Tesoro Group has two to three (2-3) openings for Wildlife Field Technicians for a wind project in Paulding County, Ohio beginning immediately and extending through November 2024.

Primary responsibilities:
• Conducting standardized fatality searches beneath wind turbines to locate bird and bat fatalities.
• Candidates must be able to live and work in a remote field setting.
• Work well both independently and with others and follow field and data entry protocols.
• There will be strict protocols for this research project and wind facility safety that are required.
• Training will be provided for all survey efforts and job-related activities.
• An average work week will be approximately 35 hours, although overtime and schedule flexibility are feasible.
• Candidates would most likely live in Fort Wayne, Indiana and commute to the site daily.

Standard personal protective equipment, as well as job specific equipment (e.g., data collection iPads/phones), will be provided. However, field technicians must be equipped with suitable footwear (rugged hiking boots or steel-toed boots) and suitable clothing (long pants).

Start Date: approximately May 21, 2024

End Date: November 16, 2024.

Compensation: $20/per hour

Job Requirements:
• Candidates should be experienced in bat and bird identification, experience with Midwest species preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in natural resources, wildlife management, wildlife biology or equivalent degree preferred.
• Undergraduates and other enthusiastic workers are encouraged to apply.
• Must be able to work independently and in small groups, and interact positively with project managers, clients, landowners, and other technicians.

Applicants must be in good physical shape and able to hike at a measured pace throughout the day. Surveys will be conducted in locations where temperatures and conditions can be extreme. Skilled use of topographic maps, compass, GPS unit, and other field equipment, is required. Successful candidates must be able to pass a background check and DMV records check that meets Tesoro groups minimum criteria to operate a motor vehicle on behalf of the company. A valid driver’s license will be required. Candidates must adhere to all health and safety requirements.
