Overview
TRC is seeking a highly motivated, qualified Mid-Level Ecologist/Wildlife Biologist for our Planning, Permitting & Licensing Practice (PPL) in the Charleston, WV Office or Mid-Atlantic region. There is an emphasis in ecological consulting, Rare, Threatened and Endangered (RTE) species surveys/habitat assessments, wetland and stream delineation, raptor nest surveys, migratory bird surveys, Clean Water Act permitting, NEPA compliance, USFWS consultation, environmental documentation, stormwater monitoring or inspection and technical report writing.
Qualified candidates must be highly motivated, junior to mid-level Ecologists/Wildlife Scientists with 3-10 years of experience. The successful applicant may be involved in a wide variety of projects including electric generation and transmission, transportation, solar power, wind generation, hydroelectric, natural gas pipeline, and oil and gas development projects.
Responsibilities
• Work under the direction of project managers and other task leaders in the performance of required field biological surveys and studies, and in-office reporting.
• Lead overall field work activities during projects that require specialized species surveys.
• Conduct biological monitoring and environmental inspection of construction projects.
• Lead and/or assist in field assessments, preparing technical reports, technical studies and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and regulatory agencies.
• Coordinate activities and work products with other staff resources and offices, as needed.
• Abide by Company policies and procedures.
• Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
• A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, natural resources, biology, ecology, or other similar environmental field is required. A master’s degree may be substituted for one year of experience.
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills are mandatory along with the ability to maintain a positive attitude during year-round field work.
• Familiarity with the flora and fauna of the eastern U.S. as necessary.
• The successful candidate should be experienced in biological surveys and methodologies, including those conducted in accordance with Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act and/or experience with Section 404 of the Clean Water Act (i.e., "wetlands").
• The successful candidate will also be expected to effectively document field data, provide interpretations, and present conclusions in written reports, memos, and emails; therefore, strong technical/scientific report writing is required and writing samples may be requested.
• Able to work outdoors conducting biological surveys in remote areas and extreme weather conditions. Must be comfortable using and operating a variety of field equipment such as handheld GPS units, electronic tablets, bat/bird equipment, water quality instruments, 4WD vehicles and all-terrain vehicles, digital cameras, etc.
• Able to travel and sometimes work for extended periods of time away, and sometimes through the weekend.
• Possess a valid driver's license and driving record acceptable to TRC's insurance carrier.
• Ability to conduct specialized terrestrial and/or aquatic species surveys (i.e., bat mist-net/acoustic surveys, mussel surveys, and/or migratory bird/raptor surveys) as well as have the ability to complete diverse biological field work with minimal supervision. Preference is given to individuals who hold or are close to obtaining a USFWS federal recovery permit(s) for listed species or hold a state scientific collection permit.
• Possess a familiarity with topographic maps, aerial photography, and Trimble or other GPS units.
• Experience conducting surface water delineations, permitting projects at the federal, state, and local levels and be able to effectively coordinate field work, interact in the field with co-workers, clients, landowners and other contractors, and comply with project budgets and schedules.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Applicants must be able to effectively coordinate with team members, participate in field and reporting efforts; and interact well with others.
• The position will require travel and the ability to conduct site visits working as part of a field team.
• Preference will also be given to those who demonstrate experience with surface water delineations, technical writing, waterway permitting, or NEPA. Candidates must have a strong working knowledge of standard office productivity software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.

Salary Range
USD $75,000.00 - USD $110,718.00 /Yr.
