Job Description

The Clearwater Region is seeking to fill two (2) Benefited 8-month

Wildlife Technicians and three (3) non-benefited 3-month Wildlife

Technicians. These positions will mostly be located at our Craig

Mountain Wildlife Management Area located in Lewiston ID. Main

responsibilities include technical duties and habitat development

relating to wildlife conservation, management, and research. This is a

temporary position and is expected to work up to 40 hours per week.

Start and end dates for the 2026 field season are flexible**.** Housing

is available for the employee only. No pets.

Dates needed:

Benefited 8-month Technician: March through November

Non-benefitted 3-month Technician: May through August

Technicians will be compensated at $18.61/hr

General Information

The selected applicants will conduct habitat development projects,

noxious weed control, plant surveys, facility maintenance, and access

management activities on public and private lands within the Clearwater

Region. Majority of this work will be located on the Craig Mountain

Wildlife Management Area (CMWMA). Other work locations might include the

Red River WMA, Joseph Plains Habitat Area, and the Nez Perce-Clearwater

National Forest. The duties of these positions are diverse and

occasionally overlap with other departments.

Successful applicants will be able to perform physically demanding

activities such as lifting up to 65lbs, hiking 8+ miles on rough and

steep terrain, and working in extreme weather conditions with or without

reasonable accommodation. All individuals will be involved in weekly

overnight work trips to various duty stations throughout the season.

Incumbents will be working with a variety of herbicides on a frequent

basis. These positions typically work a 4 day/10-hour work week. Friday,

Holiday, and weekend work might occur.

Benefited positions receive medical, vison, and dental insurance. They

also participate in the state retirement system (PERSI), accrue vacation

and sick leave, and receive paid holidays.

Responsibilities

Primary tasks for the CMWMA position include working as a team with 3-6

other technicians to conduct noxious weed control, maintain fence lines

and complete plant surveys and identification. Incumbents will also use

and maintain ATVs and UTVs daily. Weed treatments with herbicide area a

common part of these positions. Incumbents will be responsible for

handling, preparing, and applying these chemicals with spray equipment.

Training will be provided.

Other Work Responsibilities Include Data Collection, Facility

maintenance, and barbed wire fence repair/removal. Plowing and planting

fields with tractors and UTVs as well as monitoring for noxious weeds

will occur. All responsibilities require the use of UTVs/ATVs, 4WD

trucks, tractors, chainsaws, trimmers, augers, and power tools.

Experience with these habitat management tools and techniques are

desired but not required. Training will be provided.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: (These qualifications are required)

Some knowledge of wildlife ecology and habitat requirements; and

wildlife habitat

Experience recording, summarizing, and analyzing biological data.

Valid drivers license.

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will have

experience operating and performing minor maintenance and upkeep on

equipment including tractors, four-wheel drive trucks, off-road

vehicles, and using small hand and power tools. Good knowledge of plant

identification as well as experience with herbicide use when controlling

noxious weeds. Experience with fence building and repair w rk is a plus.

Additional consideration may be given at the time of the interview to

candidates who have this experience. Please be sure to include any

All incumbents must have a strong work ethic, the ability to get along

with others, self-motivated, and reflect a desire and willingness to be

tasked with new challenges in a professional setting. Applicants should

also demonstrate good communication skills, interact with the public in

a professional and positive manner, and be comfortable working
