About the position
The Watershed Analyst - Analyst 3 position at the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) involves developing total maximum daily loads (TMDLs) and conducting field monitoring to assess water quality. The role requires collaboration with watershed advisory groups and the public to implement plans for improving water quality in impaired surface waters. The analyst will also be responsible for data validation, project planning, and providing technical assistance related to environmental regulations.
Responsibilities
• Develop total maximum daily loads (TMDL).
,
• Assist and conduct field monitoring and water quality sample collection.
,
• Establish and support watershed advisory groups to collaborate on TMDL and Implementation Plans for impaired surface waters.
,
• Develop § 303(d) listed waters assessments to determine impairment based on existing data.
,
• Develop load allocations designed to restore beneficial uses based on existing data and data acquired through various programs.
,
• Develop subbasin assessments that describe the character and land use within subbasins to support the Water Quality Program's 5-year reviews.

• Follow quality assurance protocols to validate data.
,
• Work with watershed advisory groups and other volunteer organizations interested in improving water quality.

• Follow DEQ policies and procedures while completing duties.
Requirements
• Possession of a bachelor's degree in the physical or biological sciences, political science, business or public administration, engineering, or related natural resources management field, or equivalent education/experience.
,
• At least four years' experience managing and implementing environmental, regulatory, or administrative projects.
,
• One year of work experience developing and implementing TMDLs or related water quality science, conducting watershed assessments, and familiarity with modeling and GIS analytical techniques.
Nice-to-haves
• Experience in policy research, data collection, interpretation, analysis, and preparation of reports.
