Job Description

The Water Resources Senior Planner at Choctaw Nation Of Oklahoma will manage the Sustainable Water Policy program and oversee the Sustainable Communities program. Responsibilities include developing sustainable water management strategies, identifying grant opportunities, interpreting reports, and project management of federally funded water initiatives. The role requires collaboration with communities and stakeholders to enhance environmental sustainability and resource management within the region.
About the position

The Water Resources Sr. Planner will play a crucial role in managing the Sustainable Water Policy program and overseeing the office management of the Sustainable Communities program. This position is vital for ensuring the effective implementation of sustainable water management practices within the community. Reporting directly to the Director of Water Resources, the Sr. Planner will be responsible for a variety of tasks that contribute to the overall mission of the Choctaw Nation in promoting environmental sustainability and resource management. In this role, you will oversee the recruitment of data and the identification of sustainable pathways to address water-related deficiencies. This includes developing comprehensive analyses that establish a framework for implementing suggested actions or documents aimed at assisting communities in enhancing their sustainable management of water resources. You will also be responsible for identifying grant opportunities and collaborating with project managers to coordinate funding and grant opportunities related to water planning, environmental sustainability, and improvements within the reservation. Your responsibilities will extend to interpreting reports to develop water resource planning documents and comprehensive reports, which you will present to leadership and other stakeholders. Additionally, you will be tasked with developing long-term planning documents and alternative water source supply plans, ensuring that all findings are clearly communicated to leadership and stakeholders. Maintaining professional working relationships with communities, towns, and organizations is essential to understand their environmental and economic needs. You will engage in project management of federally funded water-related projects and community water initiatives. Participation in networking and conference opportunities will be expected to enhance your knowledge of current best practices regarding environmental treatment and solutions. Furthermore, you will present to community leaders and stakeholders at various platforms focused on environmental, economic, and rural/urban development, providing outreach regarding the benefits of multiple environmental and economic initiatives, including the Water Settlement Agreement.

Responsibilities

Requirements
• Bachelor of Science Degree and 3 years relevant experience or 7 years of relevant experience in water resource planning and urban planning.

• Ability to identify data gaps, conduct analyses, and compose comprehensive documents.
,
• Experience with scientific protocols, scientific reports, public speaking, and gap identification.
,
• Experience with Geographic Information System (GIS) software.
,
• Knowledge of Oklahoma water law, policies, and regulations.
,
• Experience in public works, resource assessment, and planning.
,
• Experience in data analysis and technical report development.
