Job Description
The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is seeking a Water Resource Planner to develop planning documents and enhance sustainability in reservation communities. The role involves data analysis, identifying grant opportunities, and collaborating with stakeholders to implement water resource strategies. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, along with skills in GIS, public speaking, and knowledge of water laws. This position is located in Durant, OK and is not remote.
Job Purpose or Objective(s). Develop planning documents and identify sensible actions to increase sustainability in reservation communities and watersheds and help implement the federally recognized Water Settlement Agreement, to which the Choctaw Nation is a party. You will report to the Water Resources Senior Planner.
Primary Tasks:
1. You will conduct data recruitment, identify sustainable pathways for water related deficiencies; develop comprehensive analyses to establish a framework for implementation of suggested actions or documents to assist communities for an increase in sustainable management of water resources; identify grant opportunities for environmental and economic sustainability and improvement.
2. Interpret all reports to develop water resource planning documents and comprehensive reports and present findings to leadership and other stakeholders.
3. You will develop long-term planning documents, alternative water source supply plans, and concise all documents and present findings to stakeholders.
4. Maintain professional working relationships with communities, towns, and organizations to understand community, environmental, and economic needs including data analysis, report development, and action items for sustainability.
5. Assess local resource needs that could provide a higher quality of life to all tribal and non-tribal citizens.
6. Collaborate with project managers to coordinate funding and grant opportunities related to water planning, economic development, and sustainability.
7. Attend/participate in networking and conference opportunities to increase knowledge of current best practice regarding the treatment and solutions for environmental issues.
8. Provide presentations to community leaders and stakeholders at different environmental, economic, and rural/urban development platforms.
9. Provide outreach to communities regarding multiple environmental, economic, rural development, urban development, and Water Settlement Agreement benefits.
10. Other tasks as assigned.
Requirements:
· Bachelor of Science Degree and 2 years of relevant experience or;
· 6 years of relevant experience in lieu of education
· Ability to identify data gaps, conduct analyses, and compose comprehensive documents.
· Experience with scientific protocols, scientific reports, public speaking, gap identification, Geographic Information System (GIS) software, urban/city planning, public works, resource assessment and planning, and water resource planning, data analysis, and technical report development.
· Knowledge of federal and state water law, policies, and regulations
