APS 5 - $78,548 - $86,168 per annum plus superannuation Water Policy Division Adelaide, SA, Brisbane, QLD, Canberra, ACT, Darwin, NT, Hobart, TAS, Melbourne, VIC, Perth, WA, Sydney, NSW Formulate Murray-Darling Basin water policy advice Work in a motivated and professional team with a wide range of skill sets and backgrounds City based location with flexible work options Who we are The Water Policy Division provides leadership and strategic policy to ensure the sustainable future of our rivers, wetlands and groundwaters, and the people who depend on them. The Division supports water reform initiatives in the Murray-Darling Basin and leads national water reform - working to future-proof Australia’s water resources and provide support to First Nations in our national water story. The Basins Policy and Science Branch provides national leadership and develops policy, underpinned by science, to sustainably manage surface and groundwater resources. We lead and support cross-jurisdictional water initiatives, including in the Murray-Darling Basin, Great Artesian Basin and Lake Eyre Basin. The Murray-Darling Basin Policy Section undertakes policy development and provides advice on: high priority and emerging Murray-Darling Basin policy issues; and matters relating to the operation and implementation of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan. The Job The successful applicants will undertake policy, program and coordination work that is detailed in nature, and work under direction with some autonomy. You will assist in policy research and analysis tasks, and policy/program design and development, including the provision of advice. This recruitment process will be used to fill the vacancy in the Branch listed above. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may be used to fill other vacancies, where the duties are of a similar nature. What we are looking for Knowledge and experience Experience working in a responsive policy and/or program environment. Knowledge and experience in Commonwealth and/or state water policy is desirable, but not essential. Skills and capabilities An ability to contribute to policy design and development, including the ability to investigate and source key information to support decision-making. Good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver clear written policy advice. Good interpersonal and teamwork skills, and the ability to contribute to building and sustaining positive relationships with a wide range of both internal and external stakeholders. A commitment to continuous improvement, working in new ways and a demonstrated ability to implement and respond positively to change. Desirable qualifications Qualifications in water resource policy/management, environmental science, natural resource management, law, environmental/ resource economics, science or public policy. Eligibility and other requirements Citizenship - To be eligible for employment with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water you must be an Australian citizen. Security Clearance - This position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance.
