This role requires collaboration with campus partners, including building managers, custodians, and waste haulers, to promote waste reduction initiatives and educate the community on proper waste sorting and disposal practices. The specialist will also support food recovery efforts and ensure adherence to local, state, and federal waste-related laws, including California's regulations. In addition to waste management duties, the specialist will assist with various programs aimed at reducing water and energy consumption, as well as supporting health, safety, and emergency preparedness initiatives. The role demands effective emotional intelligence, particularly in time-sensitive situations, and the ability to utilize technology tools to optimize waste services and address waste issues. The position may involve occasional physical removal of waste and donated items, requiring the specialist to wear personal protective equipment as necessary. The working conditions include a mix of desk-based tasks and physical activities, such as lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. The specialist will be expected to maintain a valid non-commercial California Driver's license, as driving will be required up to 25% of the time.
