About the position

The Wildlife Enforcement Captain for Region 3 is responsible for managing and directing enforcement activities related to wildlife conservation, fisheries, and boating safety within the designated region. This role involves supervising personnel, overseeing investigations, and ensuring compliance with state and federal laws. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, problem-solving skills, and effective communication abilities while maintaining a commitment to the protection and management of Louisiana's natural resources.

Responsibilities
• Plans, directs and manages general and complex enforcement activities of a region's operational/patrol and administrative enforcement programs related to wildlife and fisheries resources.

• Directly supervises and evaluates Lieutenants and other assigned subordinates and civilian employees.
,
• Schedules and assigns work and reviews schedules and areas of patrol to ensure maximum law enforcement coverage and optimum utilization of resources.
,
• Oversees and participates in investigations of environmental, conservation or boating incidents.
,
• Oversees and directs search and rescue operations related to the agency's role as Emergency Support Function 9.
,
• Directs enforcement of relevant state and federal laws related to fish, wildlife and boating.
,
• Secures areas impacted by natural and manmade disasters and civil disturbances.
,
• Directs investigations of crimes and boating crash scenes for evidence gathering and prosecution.
,
• Maintains contact with executives of other governmental agencies and department managers.
,
• Reviews activity reports and prepares necessary reports.

Requirements
• Six years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement in the Enforcement Division of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
,
• One year of experience must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Lieutenant or higher rank in state service.
,
• Must possess a valid Louisiana driver's license at time of appointment.
,
• Active Police Officers Standard of Training (POST) certification and current annual training requirements.

• Qualified to be an ex officio notary public.
