Job Description
Growing Hope Gardens seeks volunteers for an urban food farm in Santa Monica, CA, focused on serving low-income residents. Volunteers are needed for activities such as planting, mulching, and harvesting every Tuesday and Saturday from 10 AM to noon. The organization manages 17 organic gardens and a 1/4 acre farm, promoting community engagement and education about sustainable food practices. Children are welcome with caretakers.
Since 2019, and in partnership with Community Corporation of Santa Monica , Safe Place for Youth, Holos Communities and The People Concern , Growing Hope Gardens successfully opened and expanded 15 urban, organic, regenerative resident food gardens and fruit trees, and a 1/4 acre farm, at distinct affordable housing and homeless shelter properties in Los Angeles County
All of the resident food gardens are supported with our bi-monthly maintenance visits, with the goals of helping the gardens thrive and, increasing onsite resident knowledge and stewardship. This approach maximizes chances of success at growing food and supports resident engagement.
Educational signage informing how harvest, care, nutritional content, and suggested use is placed each season in the gardens. We also support the increase in plant-based knowledge with our online portal.,
Join GROWING HOPE GARDENS, 10-noon every TUESDAYS & SATURDAYS for vegetable seedling planting and transplanting, mulching, composting, watering and harvesting at our urban, organic food farm.
We lead and sustain 17 organic food gardens and a 1/4 acre farm, available to 3200 residents of under resourced communities.
Children with caretaker welcomed. Teen drop off possible if pre-arranged. Wear closed toe shoes, long pants and your smile!
NOTE Please refrain from using the driveway or parking in the driveway of 2033 Virginia. Let us respect the privacy of the residents who live there and help them in being able to come and go unencumbered by the visiting Urban Farm guest's vehicles.
