UL is seeking a VP of Commercial Sustainability Strategy & Business Development to lead and grow their sustainability offerings across various sectors. The role requires global leadership experience and involves developing market strategies, building external relationships, and enhancing UL's sustainability services. The ideal candidate will be a thought leader, capable of delivering impactful solutions and driving revenue growth while collaborating across teams. A bachelor's degree is required, with 15+ years of relevant experience.
Job Description
We are looking for an established leader interested in becoming part of our broad Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC) business across various sectors and industries to lead, refine and grow our Commercial Sustainability offering. You should have strategic and practical global leadership experience with a strong technical foundation. We seek an individual to help us drive the continued growth of UL Solutions' business through articulating market needs and developing a sustainability service catalog that supports our TIC sustainability strategy.
This role will span the breadth of the globe and partner across our Consumer and Industrial TIC businesses. This role will lead and work with external stakeholders to build relationships, understand the sustainability market trends and regulation requirements and identify strategic opportunities for our businesses. This role will also work with business development, principal engineering and functional leaders across the ULS organization to develop sustainability services and solutions as well as collaborate with the Software & Advisory (S&A) business to ensure that the portfolio across TIC and S&A will complement each other and generate synergies.
The ideal candidate will be a thought leader who can also shape and deliver our strategy with a programmatic approach while developing a portfolio of sustainability services and solutions across our businesses.
Responsibilities
• Develop and deliver Commercial Sustainability/ ESG value-creation solutions that extend the value of our TIC portfolio and anticipate and respond to market and customer ESG demands and requirements.
• Serve as a thought leader who broadens and deepens UL Solutions' Commercial Sustainability brand and offerings by speaking at client events and publishing thought leadership materials, developing new service offerings, and driving high quality impactful solutions to address our customers' current and future needs.
• Engage with other external stakeholders to identify environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities.
• Build upon previous experience developing and delivering frameworks, data, and disclosing sustainability performance.
• Develop stretch but achievable financial targets, customer satisfaction / expectations, and ultimately the ULS ESG TIC brand in the marketplace.
• Actively develop commercial strategies to pursue and win new business opportunities that result in significant revenue growth with target areas.
• Develop familiarity with the governance structure, vision and goals that are integrated into ULS' value proposition - provide business value at the top levels of customer organizations, raise the profile of UL Solutions' capabilities within key customer organizations, and identify and shape our services to address our customers' needs.
• Maintain a pulse on industries and prioritize team efforts toward existing and new high potential opportunities.
• Work in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment to build UL Solutions' Commercial Sustainability global business portfolio, as well as to lead cross-business success.
• Engage in "deep dives" with big and complex customers / associations.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree required, MBA or relevant master's or other related advanced degrees preferred.
• 15+ years' progressive experience in a Sustainability / ESG, working at a high-level with corporate clients; proven knowledge and familiarity with current market services and solutions.
• In-depth understanding of Sustainability / ESG ideally across several industries, including existing relationships with current and prospective customers globally.
• Business acumen to understand business risk and challenges and recognize key market opportunities.
• Understanding of key market drivers and value-creation for stakeholders both internal and external.
• Cross-functional expertise to architect and drive an integrated go-to-market plan.
• Experience with complex customer interactions, products, and services.
• Global experience (culture, market, business practices, navigating, organizational changes, etc.).
• Experience balancing priorities and driving to execution and delivering through others.
