Job Description

The Student Conservation Association is offering an eight-week Urban Green program for youth ages 18-24 in Fairfield, CA. Participants will work on community improvement projects in Solano County, engaging in habitat restoration and vocational training. The program runs from April 28 to June 20, 2025, with a schedule of Monday to Thursday, plus Fridays for vocational activities. Compensation is $18.10/hour, and participants must be residents of Solano County.

Urban Green - Solano YA Participants

Position Summary

The Community Investment Achievers (CIA) youth program will provide an eight-week work experience for up to twelve (12) youth ages 18-24. Four days (24 hours a week/Monday-Thursday) of the program will be working in the field performing duties related to community improvement projects within open spaces of Solano County. Fridays will be hosted by the Workforce Development Board of Solano County focused on worksite wrap-ups, vocational exploration, and connection to community (4 hours per week/Friday), to support new employment models in a post-COVID economy. Transportation to and from worksites will be provided from a central location in Fairfield, CA.

Fridays 8:30am - 1:00pm

Key Duties and Responsibilities

All crew members will have on-the-job training with SCA and partner staff to complete different projects throughout various Solano County that will include:
• Conducting habitat restoration and public improvement projects at regional parks and community open spaces.
• Being trained in tool usage, worksite and personal safety measures, job hazard assessments, and conflict resolution.
• Members will work in outdoor environments all while learning new skills.
• Participation in vocation exploration activities

Marginal Duties

Share in the responsibility of the care and management of SCA provided vehicles and trailers.

Required Qualifications
• Experience or interest with conservation work skills or related skills preferred - i.e., trail maintenance, trail construction, habitat restoration, carpentry, and landscaping.
• Ability to perform manual, physical labor for up to 8 hours per day, exposed to the elements, and must occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds or more.
• Must be between the ages of 18-24.
• Must meet WIOA eligibility requirements.
• Must be a resident of Solano County.
• Must have the ability to legally work in the US.
