Job Description

The University of Oklahoma seeks 1-2 Undergraduate Research Assistants for Spring to translate scripts and add closed captions in French and/or Portuguese to climate-related YouTube videos. Candidates must be current students at the university and possess language skills. Responsibilities include ensuring accuracy and meeting deadlines. The position emphasizes detail orientation and organization. This role is not remote as it is based in Norman, OK.
Job Description

A partnership between the School of Meteorology, South Central Climate Adaptation Science Center, and NextThought Studios has scripted, recorded, and published approximately 60 short videos on a broad variety of climate-relevant topics (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeQQSAEHE5PoblZ-Kfqt9FJDVX77SYBqX). These videos are freely available on YouTube and used in a variety of courses and trainings. The videos on YouTube currently have Spanish closed captioning and for additional opportunities are looking to add translation and closed captioning in other languages, including (but not limited to) French and Portuguese. We are looking for 1-2 students with these language skills to translate the scripts and add closed captions.

Duties:
• Translating written scripts to French/Portuguese.
• Adding closed caption text in French/Portuguese to videos on YouTube.

Job Requirements

Required Education: Must be currently enrolled in the Spring Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma. Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.
• Must attach Spring 2025 class schedule.

Skills:
• Ability to speak, read and write clear, concise English
• Ability to read and write clear, concise French and/or Portuguese
• Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions
• Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information
• Highly organized
• Able to complete work within deadlines
• Ability to maintain accurate records
• Experience with YouTube closed captions desired.
• Interest or knowledge about weather and climate desired but not required.
