Job Description

Climate Ed is seeking a Trustee to join its board, responsible for strategic direction, compliance with laws, and financial stability. The role involves attending around six board meetings annually, primarily online. Ideal candidates should have a strong understanding of the UK education system, experience in curriculum development, and a commitment to equity and inclusion. The role is full-time and encourages applications from diverse backgrounds.
Overview

Responsibilities
• Attend approximately six board meetings a year (evenings, online) and participate in subcommittee meetings where applicable.
• Ensure Climate Ed complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
• Ensure Climate Ed pursues its objects as defined in its governing document.
• Ensure Climate Ed uses its resources exclusively in pursuit of its objects; the charity must not spend money on activities that are not included in its own objects, no matter how worthwhile or charitable those activities are.
• Contribute actively to the board in giving firm strategic direction to Climate Ed, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
• Safeguard the good name and values of Climate Ed.
• Ensure the effective and efficient administration of Climate Ed.
• Ensure the financial stability of Climate Ed.
• Appoint the senior staff member(s) and monitor their performance.
• Scrutinise board papers.
• Lead discussions.
• Focus on key issues.
• Provide guidance on new or existing initiatives.
• Address other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.
Qualifications
• Strong understanding of the UK education system.
• Experience in curriculum development, teacher training, or resource design.
• Knowledge of volunteer engagement, recruitment, and retention.
• Strategic insight into teacher-led vs volunteer-led delivery models.
• A commitment to equity, inclusion, and empowering young people.
