Job Description

US Foods, Inc. is seeking a Transportation Department Director in Green Isle, MN. The role involves overseeing transportation operations, achieving safety and cost targets, strategic planning, and developing managers. Responsibilities include enhancing performance, implementing technology for efficiency, and collaborating with HR on labor agreements. The position requires a minimum of seven years in transportation management, with some travel required. Compensation ranges from $85,000 to $140,000 plus benefits.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Achieve all safety, service, and cost targets in the Transportation department while overseeing all operations.
• Plan and ensure the achievement of short and mid-term department objectives.
• Participate in strategic planning by identifying mid and long-term strategies for the department and directing management to align actions towards desired objectives.
• Lead with a strong safety mindset, ensuring the safety of associates, customers, and the general public. Champion safety procedures and training to cultivate a safety-first culture.
• Develop Transportation Managers through coaching, training, problem resolution, and leading by example.
• Oversee and enhance the performance of drivers and Transportation personnel by collaborating with Sr. Transportation Managers to address performance gaps.
• Attract talent and build high-performing teams aligned with service levels while monitoring hiring and interviewing processes.
• Implement technology to improve execution, productivity, and quality within compliance of company and regulatory standards.
• Monitor production goals, ensuring a zero-error approach to guarantee accuracy and customer satisfaction.
• Identify and halt waste, aiming for process improvements to enhance safety and efficiency.
• Analyze daily performance measures to identify weaknesses and recommend changes to the VP Operations to meet productivity objectives.
• Assist HR and the VP Operations in union facilities regarding collective bargaining agreements and discipline administration.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Compensation for this role is based on experience and education, and may range from $85,000 to $140,000, along with an annual incentive plan bonus. SUPERVISION:
• Direct: Transportation Managers, union and non-union transportation associates such as Dispatchers and Clerks.
• Indirect: Union and non-union drivers.

RELATIONSHIPS
• Internal: Transportation leaders, VP Operations, Drivers, Warehouse leaders, and Internal customers across departments.
• External: Customers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role involves time spent in an office using a computer, as well as being in a truck with drivers, which may expose you to higher noise and vibration levels.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Training:
• High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.

Related Experience/Requirements:
• Minimum of seven years in transportation and delivery management required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Broad knowledge of transportation and delivery operations.
• Strong leadership, communication, and people development skills.
• Adeptness in regulatory requirements such as DOT and OSHA.
• Ability to analyze financial and operational data effectively.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.).

Travel

10% travel required for mandatory meetings and training.
