Job Description

3Degrees Group, Inc. is seeking a Trading Associate in Portland, ME, to support their Environmental Markets division. The role involves managing contracts, collaborating across departments, and assisting in trading operations for renewable energy certificates (RECs). Candidates should have operational experience, attention to detail, and proficiency in Excel. This full-time position focuses on accurate deal entry and optimizing workflows within the North American REC markets.

About The Role

3Degrees' mission is to enable our global customers to reduce their environmental impact and achieve their renewable energy and sustainability goals. We do this by offering a full suite of climate and renewable energy products and services, including renewable energy certificates (RECs), RNG certificates, carbon credits, GHG strategy consulting, and renewable energy procurement advisory services (PPAs and VPPAs). The Environmental Markets division procures and sells these commodities to meet our customers' needs. As a member of the North America Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) team, you will focus specifically on the United States and Canada, actively trading in over 55 REC markets across every power pool in the country.

This is a full-time 3Degrees Environmental Markets position located in Portland, ME and will report to the Director of North American RECs or the Head of Trading.

What You'll Do

This role requires a strong operational focus and meticulous execution across various departments. You will be responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of deal entry into our internal database. A key part of your work will involve cross-functional collaboration with the Contracts and Trade Operations teams to ensure transaction details are accurately reflected in our agreements with counterparties and in our internal records. Your emphasis on process adherence and workflow optimization is essential to the team's success. Your work will involve the following:

Contract Management & Execution

Engage with the North America REC portfolio to ensure all positions are clearly and correctly reflectedAssist in generating and delivering contracts to counterparties in a timely mannerManage increased contracting responsibilities, ensuring timely and accurate processing of agreements with counterparties

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

Work across departments to efficiently problem-solve contract issues and verify deal dataCollaborate with internal stakeholders and external trading firms, ensuring alignment in deal terms and expectationsSupport the transition to new trading platforms and provide feedback to improve operational workflows

Market & Portfolio Support

Assist Origination and Trading teams in generating trade proposals, RFP-related documentation, and risk review write-upsAssist with deliveries, as well as portfolio optimization and allocation of REC supplyDevelop an understanding of renewable energy voluntary and compliance markets, and related regulatory frameworks

Requirements

ABOUT YOU

You have a strong foundation in operational strategy and execution, able to streamline processes and drive effectiveness. You pride yourself on your attention to detail and excel at managing competing priorities. Others would say you are a quick learner seeking to build a career in renewable energy and/or energy commodities. You have experience as a member of a fast-paced and progressive team and enjoy managing various tasks.

Individuals with 2+ years of professional mid-office operations experience, ideally with experience in managing processes end-to-end and collaborating with external clientsProficiency in Excel at an intermediate level, with experience in data manipulation and analysisExcellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detailExperience in a fast-paced, high growth, startup environment and comfort with customer outreachFamiliarity with reviewing basic legal documentsExperience working with contracting processes and attention to detail in legal documentation reviewTeam player with a hunger to learn about environmental commodities, trading, and the renewable energy sectorStrong commitment to diversity and inclusion as a key driver to business success and demonstrated passion for our mission

How We Define Success

Within 30 days,

Complete onboarding and understand 3Degrees' mission, the Environmental Markets division, and the North America REC team's focusBecome proficient in internal databases and systems for accurate deal entryEstablish initial working relationships with key stakeholders across relevant departmentsDevelop a clear understanding of team processes, tools, and workflows

Within 90 days,

Independently manage accurate and timely deal entry into the internal database, meeting deadlines and quality standardsProactively identify and resolve routine contract issues, collaborating effectively with internal stakeholdersContribute to generating and delivering contracts to counterparties, ensuring timely and accurate processingDemonstrate a solid understanding of the REC market and related regulatory frameworks, supporting the Origination and Trading teams

Within 6 months,

Manage increased contracting responsibilities, ensuring timely and accurate processing of complex agreementsProactively identify and implement process improvements within contract management and deal entry workflowsEffectively collaborate with external trading firms, ensuring alignment in deal terms and building strong working relationshipsContribute to trade proposals, RFP documentation, and risk reviews, demonstrating market understanding and portfolio strategy

Within 1 year,

Become a subject matter expert in contract management and deal entry, serving as a resource for the teamContribute to the transition to new trading platforms, providing feedback and ensuring smooth implementationDevelop and implement strategies to optimize REC supply allocation and portfolio managementPropose solutions for complex contract issues, demonstrating advanced problem-solving skills

Benefits

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Compensation: The starting base pay for this position is $89,000 - $100,000 in the US. The total compensation package for the successful candidate in this role may exceed the base pay as it includes other incentive pay. The base pay is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands.
