Job Description

The Town of Windham is seeking a Town Planner to develop and implement land use and community development plans. The role involves providing technical assistance to various commissions and engaging with the community. Candidates should have a Master's degree in a relevant field and significant planning experience, preferably in the public sector. The position requires a valid Connecticut driver's license and AICP certification. This is a full-time, in-person role located in Willimantic, CT.
TOWN PLANNER – TOWN OF WINDHAM

WILLIMANTIC, CT

The Town Planner develops and implements plans for land use, community development, and economic growth within the Town of Windham. Provides technical assistance to the Planning & Zoning Commission, Inland Wetland Commission, Economic Development Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, and ancillary support to other appropriate Boards, Commissions, and Agencies of the Town. Assesses current and future needs, creates long-term strategies, and engages with the community.

Must possess a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in urban and regional planning, project management, public policy, or a related field; plus six (6) years of progressively responsible community planning experience, four (4) of which must have been in the public sector; preferred; or a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited planning program; plus eight (8) years of progressively responsible community planning experience, six (6) of which must have been in the public sector; or in lieu thereof, an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the essential functions of the position.

Must possess and retain a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Must possess certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), or the equivalent.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office, required. Bilingual (English and Spanish), preferred.

Salary Grade 11 with a salary range of $103,715 to $125,489 annually, commensurate with experience. (Individuals with less than the desired qualifications listed above will start at the lower to middle range of the scale.)
