Job Description

A research assistant in the Morgan Antarctica Research Group. The Morgan Antarctica Research Group studies the glacial history of Antarctica through the landform and deposits left behind by glaciers. This person will assist with lab work for sample preparation, generation of data, data analysis, and writing up research results.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Catalog samples collected in 2022 and 2024.
• Assist with cleaning all laboratory supplies and re-ordering supplies.
• Prepare samples for analysis, including drying, crushing, and sieving samples.
• Conduct laboratory procedures for grain size analysis, organic carbon content, bulk geochemistry, and salt concentration.
• Conduct mineral separations to isolate zircon minerals from samples.
• Assist with the imaging of zircon mounts on the scanning electron microscope and the collection of Uranium and Lead data on the laser ablation inter coupled plasma mass spectrometer.
• Process and analyze data from all methods listed above.
• Prepare images, graphs, presentations, and writing to present research results.
• Other laboratory duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Preferred: Bachelors degree.
• Preferred: At least 3 months of work in a laboratory setting.
