Role Description

The Technical Lead – Generation Performance a newly created opportunity in our Perth CBD office.

This role leads Synergy’s Thermal Generation efforts to ensure compliance with the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) Rules. It involves establishing and leading a compliance working group, understanding market rules including generator performance standards, and aligning compliance strategies with Synergy’s business objectives.

Additional responsibilities include regulatory reporting, developing, and implementing compliance management procedures, leading investigations into breaches, and ensuring corrective actions are in place. Effective communication, engaging with internal and external stakeholders, and actively promoting continuous improvement in compliance practices are essential for this role.

Job Responsibilities
• Work with engineering and operational teams to understand resolve generation performance risks and issues in line with WEM rules performance obligations. Coordinate and manage generator performance testing in line with capacity and Essential System Services certifications.
• Develop and implement controls to manage regulatory compliance risks, ensuring all activities comply with regulatory requirements and WEM obligations. Regularly assess and adjust controls based on regulatory changes.
• Work with asset teams, utilising Generator Performance Monitoring Plan to assess all Synergy Thermal Generation assets against established generator performance standards. Take a lead to address any generator performance gaps.
• Create and lead a cross-function compliance workgroup to monitor and manage Thermal Generation compliance obligations, ensuring consistent and coordinated compliance efforts across all sites. The Lead is required to collaborate with other asset management team within Future Energy Business Unit
• Prepare all statutory compliance reports and escalate non-compliance items by exception for management and relevant regulatory bodies and contribute to the Asset Management Plans by collaborating with the Asset Management team to provide insights on the compliance components of the Asset Management Plan.

What You Will Bring
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or a closely related field or equivalent experience
• 7+ years of experience in the electricity markets and power generation, particularly in compliance, regulatory, or similar roles.
• Strong ability to communicate with influence, leading cross-functional engagements with stakeholders.
• Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
• Continuous improvement and innovation - Challenges the status quo and established practices, driving continuous improvement.
