Job Description

Auroville Consulting is seeking a Technical Lead – Building Energy Efficiency Expert in Viluppuram, Tamil Nadu, to implement the India Cooling Action Plan. Responsibilities include updating building specifications, promoting energy-efficient practices, engaging stakeholders, and providing technical advisory support. The ideal candidate should have a Master's degree in a relevant field and over 5 years of experience in energy-efficient building design and policy development.
Overview:

The Technical Lead – Building Energy Efficiency Expert will play a pivotal role in implementing the India Cooling Action Plan (ICAP) through Tamil Nadu’s Project Management Unit (PMU). This role focuses on improving energy efficiency in the building sector, updating procurement and construction specifications, supporting the implementation of EcoNiwas Samhita, promoting passive cooling and thermal comfort, and assisting private real estate developers in adopting sustainable practices. The ideal candidate will have advanced knowledge in building sciences, architecture, or engineering, with substantial experience in developing building codes, engaging with government agencies, and fostering stakeholder collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

Policy and Technical Advisory
• Oversee updates to procurement and construction specifications, integrating advanced energy efficiency standards and sustainability benchmarks.
• Promote the implementation of the EcoNiwas Samhita across Tamil Nadu, ensuring compliance with national building codes and standards.
• Provide technical inputs and develop guidelines for incorporating passive cooling techniques and thermal comfort measures in building design and construction.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement policies that support sustainable and energy-efficient buildings, especially in affordable housing and urban development projects.

Stakeholder Engagement and Capacity Building
• Act as a key liaison between state government departments, municipal bodies, and industry stakeholders to promote building energy efficiency initiatives.
• Provide advisory support and coordination assistance to private sector real estate developers, fostering the adoption of energy-efficient construction practices.
• Conduct training programs and workshops for architects, engineers, contractors, and government officials to build capacity in energy-efficient design and construction.

Project Implementation and Coordination
• Collaborate with private developers to promote innovative construction practices aligned with energy-efficient standards.
• Ensure that all project activities are monitored, documented, and reported effectively, with measurable outcomes aligned with ICAP objectives.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to support the integration of energy-efficient building technologies into state and local development plans.

Research, Analysis, and Reporting
• Prepare technical reports, policy briefs, and recommendations for government agencies and private stakeholders.
• Monitor and evaluate the performance of building energy efficiency projects and compile lessons learned for future implementation.
• Develop multilingual communication materials (in Tamil and English) to raise awareness and disseminate knowledge about energy-efficient buildings.

Qualifications:

Educational Background:
• Master’s degree or higher in Building Sciences, Architecture, Engineering, or related fields.

Professional Experience:
• 5+ years of experience in energy-efficient building design, implementation of building codes and standards, or related fields.
• Demonstrated expertise in engaging with government departments, working on policy development, and implementing building energy efficiency initiatives.
• Experience in collaborating with private sector developers and fostering stakeholder engagement.

Skills and Competencies:
• Strong knowledge of building energy efficiency standards, codes, and sustainable construction practices.
• Expertise in passive cooling strategies, thermal comfort, and green building certifications.
• Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex projects effectively.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Advanced proficiency in technical documentation, report writing, and presentations.
• Advanced proficiency in written and spoken English.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity with the India Cooling Action Plan (ICAP), EcoNiwas Samhita, and other relevant policies.
• Experience in updating and implementing procurement and construction specifications for energy efficiency.
• Exposure to international building energy efficiency standards and practices.
• Fluency in Tamil

This is a full-time position, the person will need to work out of our Chennai or Auroville office.
