The Essex County Schools of Technology is seeking a 10-month Teacher of Science - Biology/ Environmental at Payne Tech for the 2025-26 school year.
Position Purpose
- Under the School Principal's supervision, the Science Teacher fosters a comprehensive understanding of biological concepts and principles. They engage students through dynamic and interactive lessons, promoting scientific inquiry and critical thinking skills while integrating real-world applications and current scientific advancements.
Qualifications:
• Valid New Jersey Teaching Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility
• Science - Biology/Environmental Certification
• Demonstrated knowledge of subject specialty and effective teaching methods
• Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
• Must be resident of New Jersey or attain residency within one year unless exempted under the law
Performance Responsibilities:
• Instructs students in core scientific disciplines, including biology, physical science, earth and space science, life science, and environmental science.
• Develops and delivers engaging, inquiry-based lessons that incorporate real-world scientific phenomena and current research.
• Designs and administers formative and summative assessments, using data to inform and adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs.
• Prepares students for academic and real-world success by fostering scientific literacy, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Collaborates with colleagues across disciplines to enhance interdisciplinary learning and stay updated on educational best practices and scientific developments.
• Establishes and maintains a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that encourages curiosity and active participation.
• Maintains accurate and timely records of student achievement, attendance, and behavior.
• Integrates technology, multimedia resources, and current scientific findings into the curriculum to enhance student learning and engagement.
• Guides students in the application of the scientific method and real-world problem-solving across various fields of science.
• Plans, implements, and evaluates instructional strategies and materials in alignment with the approved general science curriculum and state standards.
• Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, using the results to differentiate instruction and support student growth.
• Provides individualized and small group instruction for students requiring additional academic support, including those with special needs.
• Maintains awareness of district and NJ State standardized testing requirements and adapts instruction to help students perform successfully on assessments.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Terms of Employment
This is a full-time day position during 10 months of the year. This position is governed by the collective bargaining agreement by and between the Board of Education and the Essex County Vocational Education Association.
Compensation
2025-2026 contractual rate
The Essex County Vocational and Technical High Schools are public schools supported by County, State and Federal Funds. There are five such programs operated by the Board of Education for the Vocational Schools in the County of Essex. These include four high schools and one adult center. In addition to salary, the Board of Education offers fringe benefits to all employees. These benefits include maintenance of hospitalization insurance including Medical, Dental and Benecard Prescription Plan. The Board also maintains a $4,000 Group Life Insurance Policy for each employee.
