Job Description
Anne Arundel County Public Schools seeks a Science/Environmental Teacher for future positions. Responsibilities include developing instructional plans, supervising students, and creating a conducive learning environment. Candidates may need bilingual skills and experience with virtual learning technology. The role may require additional work outside normal hours, including evenings and weekends. A Bachelor's Degree in education and experience with remote instruction platforms are required.

JOB SUMMARY
Provides for instruction of students by developing, selecting, and modifying instructional plans and materials and presenting them using instructional techniques which meet the needs of all students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of students. Supervises students in a variety of school-related settings and activities. Bilingual and biliterate in targeted language may be required depending on assignment.
Virtual experience may be required based on assignment.
Additional Work Days/Hours
Based on the assignment, the following additional work days and/or hours may be required as needed:
• Evenings/Nights
• Outside of normal business hours
• Weekends
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Establishes clear goals and objectives related to the school improvement plan. Plans and prepares lessons, assignments, and instructional materials.
• Establishes learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development.
• Prepares, administers and corrects evaluations and assessments, and records results. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, board policy and administrative regulation.
• Selects and uses appropriate instructional strategies including but not limited to, lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, modeling and multi-media teaching aids to present subject matter to students.
• Evaluates student progress using appropriate assessment techniques. Counsels students when academic and adjustment problems arise.
• Maintains order and discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning; takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, textbooks, materials and facilities.
• Creates a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
• Confers with parents and students regarding progress/problems of assigned students; arranges and participates in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences as necessary.
• Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings and provides input regarding the planning of instructional goals, objectives and methods. May serve on special committees.
• Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers.
• Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.

Education
• Bachelor's Degree in applicable field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required.
Experience
• One (1) year experience with virtual learning technology, remote instruction platforms, Learning Management Systems, and video conferencing tools, if assigned to Virtual Academy required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
• Knowledge of school organization, goals and objectives, curriculum, teaching techniques; current trends, research and materials of instruction in field of specialization.
• Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
• Ability to infuse technology into curriculum.
• Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school board staff, students, parents and the community.
• Excellent organizational and human relation skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate with diverse communities and develop outreach strategies to encourage parental involvement in student learning.
• Ability to demonstrate techniques necessary to instruct students in area of assignment.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
• Ability to travel to/from Maryland Sites as necessary at the expense of the employee is required for in-person appearances at various intervals throughout the duration of the school year.
• Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Language Requirements
• Bilingual/Biliterate If assigned to bilingual program, bilingual and biliterate in targeted language required.
Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment.
• Hold or be eligible for Educator Certification:
Professional Certificate appropriate to the assigned teaching content area issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required; or
