Job Description
JPMorgan Chase is hiring a TaxOrientedInvestments-Energy-Originations Associate in Chicago, IL. The role involves cash flow modeling, structuring renewable energy investments, and managing transactions from proposal to closing. Candidates should have a BA/BS, 2+ years in tax equity or energy finance, strong analytical and communication skills, and proficiency in Excel. The position is part of a team focused on U.S. renewable energy projects.
As a Associate on this team you will be joining a very successful group of professionals who are dedicated to investing in U.S. renewable energy projects, including wind, solar and geothermal power, battery storage and carbon capture facilities. Since 2003 the Energy Investments team has invested or raised from other institutional investors over $40 billion of tax equity for renewable projects working with our clients that include most of the major domestic and international renewable energy companies. The Energy Investments team expects to grow as the federal government extends its commitment to energy independence and lowering America's carbon footprint. JPMorgan earns significant investment income from these investments, which are integral to JPMorgan Chase's environmental policy and underscore the firm's commitment to promoting wider use of renewable energy.
As part of an integrated deal team, your role will include being responsible for performing cash flow modeling (including EBITDA, tax, economics, accounting, and various sensitivity analysis) to structure and analyze energy investment opportunities (principally renewable energy tax credit transactions). You will be a key member of multiple deal teams at the same time and primarily charged with modeling and structuring investments by utilizing sizable and intricate Excel spreadsheets. Within this work, extensive analysis is performed on each transaction in terms of economic returns (before and after tax and from both the investors' and the clients' perspectives) and accounting as well as how such transaction structures perform under various "downside" scenarios.
Additionally, you will be responsible for assisting the deal lead to manage the transaction from proposal, signing, diligence, documentation and internal approval processes through closing/funding. You will need to manage working relationships with clients, legal counsel and internal stakeholders such as risk and the investment committee.
Job Responsibilities
• Modeling of each transaction, but the responsibilities can expand into all areas necessary to get a deal from the initial bidding phase through to closing
• Conveying the results of analysis to internal management, counsel and clients
• Assisting in the preparation and delivery of investment committee and client presentations
• Assisting in investment due diligence and documentation
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
• BA or BS degree required (majors in economics, finance, accounting)
• Strong communication skills
• 2+ years relevant experience in tax equity or energy finance
• Strong team player and be capable of juggling multiple assignments at one time
• Strong analytical capabilities
• Extensive economic modeling experience and a strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including moderate/ advanced formula composition skills (i.e., extensive "if' statements, "index-match", "sum product" and "sum if" formulas)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Willingness to be flexible and desire to work in a fast-paced team-oriented environment
