Job Description

Carbon, Inc. is seeking a Systems Engineering Intern for a 10-week summer program in Redwood City, CA. The intern will collaborate with a diverse team to design and test hardware for current and future products, gaining hands-on experience and skills in mechanical and electrical engineering. Candidates should be pursuing a BS in a related field and possess relevant technical skills. The position requires full-time, in-office engagement.
As an intern on the Systems team, you will help design and test the hardware of Carbon's current and future products. You will gain a diverse set of skills and experiences with opportunities to learn about our products, grow your design skills, test hands-on with a cross functional team, improve our processes, and make memories with a fun and interesting group of people.

This role is based in our Redwood City, California office and requires full time in office engagement (Monday - Friday).

Our Summer internship program is approximately 10 weeks long between the dates of June 3rd - August 22nd 2025.
Responsibilities
• Work closely with a diverse team of Electrical, Firmware, Mechanical, and Systems Engineers to design, validate and ship state of the art products.
• Mechanical design for test fixtures
• Write software to develop and improve our automated test infrastructure
• Develop troubleshooting and debugging skills while resolving technical issues with current and future Carbon hardware products
• Analyze test data and document findings to inform future design iterations and system improvements
Skills/Experience
• Pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering with a focus in Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field with the intent to graduate in 2026 or 2027
• Coursework in mechanical design, electrical engineering, and software
• CAD tool experience in Onshape, solidworks etc.
• PCB CAD tool experience such as Altium, etc.
• Electrical Hardware troubleshooting experience
• Python scripting experience
• Self starter able to create, estimate, prioritize, and track multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
Nice to Have
• Familiarity with lab equipment such as Oscilloscopes, Digital Multi Meters, Power Supplies, Signal Generators, etc.
• C/C++ Firmware Development
• Experience with resin-based 3D printing technologies such as DLS, SLA, or DLP.

Role is based in our Redwood City, CA US headquarters office. We are excited for this upcoming intern season! At Carbon, we look at the person holistically and carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation. The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $28.00 per hour. Your actual salary will be based on your experience, work location, certifications and the unique skills you bring to the role.
