Job Description

The Sustainable Investor Engagement Intern at Environmental Defense Fund, Inc. in New York, NY, will support the investor engagement team by organizing documents, researching firm interests, and developing communication materials. The role involves collaboration with the Sustainable Finance team to drive positive climate impact through financial institutions. The Sustainable Finance team, within EDF+Business, leverages and influences the global financial forces that affect a company's actions to drive positive and equitable climate impact. Those forces can include banks, asset managers, investors, private equity, venture capital, financial policy and regulations, and insurers.

Overall Function

The intern will provide support to EDF's investor engagement team in three broad areas: organization of engagement documents, research on specific firms' interests, and communications materials development. The intern will report to the Senior Manager and work closely with other EDF staff on the Sustainable Finance team focused on relationship management with investors and financial institutions of interest.

Key Responsibilities

Tasks will include but are not limited to:
• Maintain, streamline, and improve the organization of Sustainable Finance Team engagement documents.
• Research specific firm interests, looking for areas of overlap with EDF Sustainable Finance Team areas of expertise and understanding the latest sustainable finance trends.
• Use strategy documents to investigate which organizations EDF would approach for each area of expertise.
• Support the preparation of communication materials for use with financial institutions to describe our work.
• Support the planning of upcoming events and other planned outreach related to sustainable finance.
• Present on deliverables to internal EDF stakeholders.
• Participate in advancing EDF Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) goals in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address environmental and organizational challenges in alignment with EDF values.

Qualifications
• Enrolled in or a recent graduate of an undergraduate degree program with coursework in sustainability, finance, and/or a related field.
• Demonstrated interest in the role of the financial system in catalyzing the transition to a sustainable economy.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Must be well-organized, motivated, and detail-oriented.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a virtual team setting.
• Demonstrate self-awareness, cultural competency and inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across diverse cultures and backgrounds.
• Demonstrate initiative and problem-solving skills.

Location

U.S. Remote with option to be hybrid out of EDF office in New York City. Intern supervisor is in New Jersey and many team members are in New York.

Summer 2025 (10-12 weeks)

Hours

Full-time (35 hr/week)

Compensation

This internship would involve compensation for work paid at a rate competitive with leading non-profits at $18/hr.
