Job Description
The University of Virginia is hiring two Sustainable Food Collaborative Student Research Assistants (SRAs) to support food sustainability efforts. Responsibilities include meeting support, communication, event coordination, and social media management. The role is part-time (10-15 hours/week in summer, 10 hours/week during the academic year) and is partially remote, requiring some in-person meetings. Compensation ranges from $16 to $18 per hour based on student status.
The Institute for Engagement + Negotiation (IEN) is seeking to hire two SRAs (graduate or undergraduate) to support work on the Sustainable Food Collaborative (SFC). The SFC, a subset of the UVA Sustainability Committee, is a collaboration across several university entities connected with the campus food system. The SFCworks to implement the five Sustainability Plan Food Goals, which center around food sustainability, food security and equity, and supporting local food systems.
The SRAs will work with the project team to perform the following tasks:
• Attendance and support for project team meetings and workshops through notetaking, preparation of materials, meeting scheduling, and communications.
• Leading small group discussions and meetings.
• Communicating with members around upcoming events and supporting and tracking work groups and their goals.
• Working with project leads and partners on developing, coordinating, and supporting marketing for relevant events.
• Maintaining file organization for SFC; updating website; social media posts, and provide support for members as needed.
• SFC interns will support other IEN projects in similar capacities as needed.
This role will involve 10-15 hrs./wk. during the summer for each SRA. The ideal candidates would be interested in continuing with the project during the academic year at approximately 10 hrs./wk. The role is partially remote, and also includes some in person meetings at our office (2400 Old Ivy Rd.) and on Grounds.
Undergraduate student - $16/hr.
Graduate student first year - $17/hr.
Graduate student second year - $18/hr.

• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Experience with Canva or other programs to support the design of graphic and visually engaging materials for public audiences.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
