Job Description
The Sustainable Communities Manager at Choctaw Nation oversees the Sustainable Communities Program, enhancing public water system operations in Durant, OK. Responsibilities include managing assessments of water facilities, cultivating relationships with treatment facilities, coordinating with regulatory agencies, and developing training programs. Candidates should have a relevant degree or extensive experience in water/wastewater treatment and knowledge of engineering protocols. The role involves project management of federally funded water initiatives.
Job Summary : The Sustainable Communities Manager manages the Sustainable Communities Program in the Office of Water Resource Management to improve public water system operations and management. You will report to the Director of Water Resources.
Primary Tasks :
1. You will manage the Sustainable Communities Program in the office of Water Resource Management.
2. Cultivate and maintain professional working relationships with water and wastewater treatment facilities, staff, and upper management.
3. You will oversee assessments of public water system facilities to identify bottlenecks, design flaws, required / needed upgrades, inefficiencies, and potential improvements; identify programs, funding opportunities, and other resources to increase the safety of the facilities’ products, provide upgrades, resiliency, redundancy, and efficiencies.
4. Establish a contact for each water and wastewater treatment facility and field infrastructural questions, and funding requests. Oversee the evaluation of facilities equally and fairly to identify priority issues, environmental and human harm, and requests for assistance.
5. Work cooperatively with internal departments and external tribal departments to coordinate efforts, and state and federal agencies for potential funding mechanisms. Work directly with State and Federal regulatory agencies on drinking water and wastewater compliance issues. Develop and implement a water / wastewater operator training program.
6. Manage the review of drinking water and wastewater discharge water quality data gathered for use as potential indicators of facility issues, inefficiencies, and internal department analysis.
7. Attend / participate in networking and conference opportunities to increase knowledge of infrastructural issues and to identify potential funding.
8. Provide insight on potential water and wastewater issues, upgrades, technical methodologies, and technological advancements in the industry.
9. Develop reports, technical comments, and interpret engineering reports for infrastructure related projects for communities and the Choctaw Nation. Assess local resource needs that could provide a higher quality of life to people in the Choctaw Nation.
10. Project management of water related federal grant funded tribal projects and community water projects.
11. Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements :
• Bachelor of Science or Engineering-based degree or;
• Requisite experience of 7 years in water / wastewater treatment or resource infrastructure
• Experience developing assessment metrics, conducting inspections, and interpreting engineering reports.
• Has current knowledge of technical advancements in water and wastewater treatment processes, methodologies, and engineering designs.
• Microsoft Office Suite experience
• Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes, engineering protocols, scientific / engineering instrumentation, water chemistry analysis, and process analysis.
