Fallen Pine Oyster Company seeks a Sustainable Aquaculture Manager in Snow Hill, MD, to lead an oyster farm and ensure sustainable practices. Responsibilities include overseeing daily operations, managing farm workers, and maintaining environmental compliance. The role requires physical labor and experience in aquaculture. In a spirit of exploration and resilience we are seeking someone capable to help grow and lead a team in cultivating one of the best oysters in the Mid-Atlantic. This role requires a leader that excels in the face of adversity and is passionate about sustainable aquaculture.

As manager of an oyster farm, you will be responsible for the stewardship of a farm containing millions of live oysters in one of the most pristine waterbodies in the country. You will help guide our efforts to produce exceptional oysters while respecting the delicate balance of our marine environment. Each day, you will determine the challenges and tasks of tides and weather, ensuring that we have a smooth operation day to day.

Title: Farm Manager

Schedule: Monday-Friday/40 hours per week - Flexible, depending on sunrise/sunset and time of year.

Pay Range: $40,000 – 60,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience

Benefits: 2 weeks’ paid vacation, 1 week paid sick & safe leave. Health, Dental, Vision Insurance. Production based bonuses.

Education and Work Experience Requirements:
• High School education or equivalent required
• Some college in aquaculture, business, or other relevant field preferred
• Ability to obtain and maintain Harvester Card through Maryland Department of Natural Resources
• Experience in aquaculture and/or hospitality strongly preferred
• Valid driver’s license with less than three (3) points and proof of insurance

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Oversee daily operations, including but not limited to:
• Sorting and preparing oysters for harvest
• Stocking cages and maintaining optimal densities
• Cleaning gear and biofouling control
• Building and repairing equipment
• Monitoring environmental conditions and adjusting farming practices accordingly to ensure optimal oyster health and quality
• Manage farm workers’ daily activity
• Occasional deliveries to distributors, drivers, and/or restaurants as needed
• Implement quality control measures to maintain high standards for oyster size, shape, and taste
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including but not limited to environmental regulations, food safety standards, and licensing requirements
• Maintain detailed records of farm activities, production yields, inventory levels, and employee working hours

Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds
• Able to safely wade/walk in waist-high water
• Able to bend down, stand, and kneel for long periods of time
• Comfortable working in all conditions (heat/cold/rain/wind)
• Able to do repetitive work

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 50 per week
