Job Description

Kimball Union Academy is seeking a full-time Sustainability and Food and Farm Science Teacher in Plainfield, NH. The role involves planning and teaching courses, coaching, advising students, and serving as a dorm parent. Candidates should have a relevant degree and at least five years of high school teaching experience. Kimball Union Academy (KUA) seeks an experienced, student-centered, and pedagogically innovative sustainability/food and farm science teacher to join our community as a full-time faculty member who will actively support and fulfill KUA’s mission “to create a deep sense of belonging for every member of our community. Through intentionally designed experiences and challenges, our students develop the knowledge, voice, and character to live with purpose and integrity.”

ABOUT THE POSITION

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Plan and teach four sections including sustainability, food and farm science, and possibly biology, chemistry, or environmental science.
• Open to learning and utilizing the principles of KUA Design within the classroom, coaching, advising and within the residential program.
• Teach a curriculum and work in collaboration with a community that embraces diversity, provides equity, and ensures inclusion and belonging for all.
• Learn and utilize the principles of KUA Design within the classroom, coaching, advising and within the residential program.
• Teach using current pedagogical practices including Universal Design for Learning, backwards planning ( Understanding by Design) , and project-based learning to equip students with 21 st century skills.
• Coach sports and/or lead activities.
• Advise a small cohort of students.
• Serve as a dorm parent in our residential program and work within a team to supervise and facilitate weekend activities on occasional weekends.
• Pursue continuous growth and development in understanding and implementation of diverse and effective instructional practices.
• Contribute knowledge, expertise, and passion to the on-going collaborative effort to innovate and improve KUA’s curriculum.
• Participate in committee work as requested by school leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS
• A bachelor’s degree in sustainability, food and farm systems, environmental science or a closely related field; a graduate degree in education or science is preferred.
• Five or more years of teaching high school science.
• Collaborative approach, willing to work closely with colleagues both in and outside of the department.
• Facility with Mac OS, tablet technology, Microsoft365, and other science education-enhancing products is preferred.
• Experience in a range of sports – coaching experience preferred.
• Flexible, resilient, and creative working within a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills and a track record for building strong relationships with both students and colleagues.
• Strong analytical skills and an ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Student-centered educator with a commitment to investing in the lives of young people.
