About the position
The Sustainability Specialist at Oakton College is responsible for developing and coordinating campus-wide sustainability programs that enhance teaching, learning, and student success. This role involves overseeing the Virtual Center for Sustainability, acting as a liaison for the Illinois Green Economy Network, and promoting environmental stewardship and energy conservation through various initiatives and community outreach efforts.
Responsibilities
• Develop and coordinate campus-wide sustainability programs in teaching, learning, and operations.

• Serve as the campus spokesperson on sustainability and oversee communications related to sustainability initiatives.

• Collaborate with faculty and student leadership to plan and implement sustainable programs and events.
,
• Implement a system to measure, track, and report on sustainability efforts.
,
• Manage the development of metrics for outreach and engagement programs.
,
• Represent Oakton at local and regional sustainability events and participate in IGEN efforts.
,
• Participate in grant funding applications for sustainability projects and manage reporting requirements.
,
• Hire and manage student workers and volunteers to support sustainability activities.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Public Policy, sustainable development, architecture, or related field.

• Two years of experience implementing sustainability programs.

• Ability to establish effective working relationships with faculty, administrators, and staff.
,
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; database software skills are highly desired.
