Job Description
Dangote Industries Limited is seeking a Sustainability Specialist for its Ibese, Nigeria plant. The role focuses on driving decarbonisation efforts, emissions measurement, and sustainability reporting. Candidates should have a degree in a relevant field and at least 5 years of experience in environmental sustainability. Responsibilities include facilitating decarbonisation strategies, ensuring compliance with regulations, and engaging with industry partners. The position is not remote and requires on-site presence.
Dangote Cement is committed to advancing its Group sustainability goals and climate action commitments in our Nigeria and Pan Africa operations. Therefore, we seek to hire a motivated and skilled decarbonisation specialist who is passionate about influencing change and working with multinational enterprises. The Specialist will drive the decarbonisation efforts in Ibese. This role will report to the Ibese Plant Director and Group Head of Sustainability. The Specialist provides expertise in emissions measurement, data-driven GHG reduction strategies, and climate action while advising on relevant standards and methodologies. The role includes sustainability and ESG reporting and extensive knowledge of contemporary best practices in carbon management. The candidate will spend about 50% of their time on carbon data analysis and quality reviews, 25% on ESG and sustainability reporting, and 25% on corporate governance activities related to sustainability.
In this role, the Specialist will:
• Facilitate the Ibese decarbonisation roadmap, including identifying and evaluating technologies and processes to reduce carbon emissions in the cement value chain of Ibese plant.
• Align and build the capacity of data and technical teams for decarbonisation, including Transport and supply chain, to deliver on decarbonisation actions within short timelines.
• Engage in building trusted, lasting partnerships with industry groups and technology providers to harness opportunities for green financing, carbon offsetting, carbon credits, etc.
• Ensure compliance with local, national, and international environmental regulations, emissions reduction standards, and climate-related policies.
• Provide reports and respond to requests and audits on climate action and decarbonisation.
• Provide guidance on industry practices and applicable methodologies, focusing on the upcoming sustainability and decarbonization-related protocols.
• Stay up to date on relevant standards and global best practices and research industries to build out tailored data needs (eg. performance indicator benchmarking, data regionalization, decarbonization strategies)
Requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, or related field. An advance degree in a relevant area (engineering, climate science, sustainability) will be an advantage.
• At least 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, environmental sustainability, or a related field. and 2+ years’ experience in GHG accounting.
• Proven experience in Carbon accounting, decarbonisation experience using global standards (GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, Scope 2 and Scope 3 guidance or similar), carbon management, or energy efficiency initiatives within an industrial or manufacturing setting.
• Expertise in decarbonization technologies, such as alternative fuels and low-carbon cement alternatives,
• Industry-specific knowledge in one or more sectors: energy, transportation, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), industrials and agriculture.
• Understanding of industrial production processes and the environmental impact of manufacturing.
• Excellent project management skills with the ability to oversee complex, cross-functional projects.
• Strong communication skills to engage stakeholders at all levels and effectively present technical information to non-technical audiences.
• Ability to analyze and visualize data, develop forecasts and business plans.
• Ability to work well under pressure, with fast turnarounds with an entrepreneurial mindset
