Sustainability Programme Officer

Sheffield City Council is seeking a Sustainability Programme Officer for a fixed-term position until March 2027. The role involves leading decarbonisation programmes, building partnerships, and supporting climate finance initiatives. Candidates should have experience in climate change governance, funding, and strong communication skills. Sheffield has a bold vision to become a net zero-carbon city working with our partners,
residents, businesses and city institutions to help make this a reality. We have launched our
first Decarbonisation Route maps, setting the stage for innovative projects like expanding our
heat networks and rolling out electric vehicle recharging infrastructure.

Delivering these programmes will require significant investment and the Council has committed
to issue its first Local Climate Bond this coming year.

We are keen to hear from candidates with experience and expertise in climate finance and
funding, and who would be confident and capable of supporting our climate bond issuance,
alongside delivering other projects.

You’ll be expected to have proven professional excellence in the field of climate change and
considerable experience in the governance and delivery of decarbonisation programmes and
projects.

With excellent verbal and written communication skills, you will be able to build strong
relationships and have experience of preparing business cases, securing funding or investment
and possess robust financial management skills.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If
you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we
will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
